Shields
William A. (Bill) Shields, age 84 of Columbus, Ohio passed away
peacefully at 2:10 AM Wednesday June 12, 2019 at the Ohio State
University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Bill was born
January 10, 1935 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Carl D.
and F. Augusta (Shultz) Shields. He grew up in the Greenville
area before moving to Sidney and finally to Columbus, Ohio in 1980.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of Greenville High School. Upon
graduation Bill worked for A&P Supermarkets and then Kraft Foods
for 34 years during which time he held the positon of Sales Rep.,
Supervisor, and District Manager before retiring in 1992. Bill
was active in the Greenville Church of the Brethren until moving to
Sidney, Ohio, was a Boy Scout Master, Greenville Troop #182,
participated in the Greenville Chamber of Commerce & Jaycees, was
President of the Park Board, served on the Republican Central and
Executive committee, worked on his parent’s farm and was a dedicated
family man.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother
Richard Shields.
Surviving is his wife, Phyllis (Fourman), Shields of 64 years; three
children, David Shields (Sue) of New Kent, VA, Elaine Hanf
(Brent) of Mentor, Ohio and Jim Shields (Mia Sossei) of Chicago,
IL; seven grandchildren, Leah King(Greg), Nathanial
Shields(Samantha), Ariel Bond (Tim), Micheal Hanf, Erik Hanf (Angela),
Hazel Shields, Tabitha Shields; six great grandchildren, Haele King,
Kaylee King, Charlotte Shields, Nicholae Bond, Thomas Bond, Isabella
Hanf; three siblings, Doris Charles of Fayetteville, Ohio, Duane
Shields of Greenville and Kay Shields of Columbus, Ohio; many
nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in law, sister-in-law and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday June 17, 2019 in the
Zechar Bailey Funeral Home 1499 N. Broadway Greenville, Ohio with
Pastor Ron Sherck officiating. Burial will follow in the
Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday
June 16, 2019 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and on Monday one hour prior
to the services in the funeral home.
