Greenville Schools
Levy... The Board’s Perspective
by Joe Payne, Greenville City Schools Board of Education
Very soon citizens living within the
Greenville City School district will have an opportunity to show their
support for our kids WITHOUT paying additional taxes. On Election
Day May 3rd a “Yes” vote is urged for the passage of the Greenville
City Schools Operating Levy Renewal, a vote that will yield NO
additional taxes.
Here are the up-front facts concerning this very important vote:
• This levy is a 5 year RENEWAL of an existing 5.5
Mills for Operating Expenses.
• By law, funds generated from this levy can only be
used for the day-to-day operations of the school district.
These funds can be used for nothing else, no matter what.
• This Renewal Levy was passed initially in 1996 and
has been passed by voters ever since that time.
• Your “Yes” vote means funding continues, with No
Additional Taxes.
As the newest board member I have been given a
unique opportunity, a window, in order to see how the schools are being
run from the inside out. From this vantage point I
have witnessed a strong commitment to the education of our children
while making the most of our citizen’s tax dollars. I see a
progressive school district with a goal of excellence while remaining
fiscally conservative. I see administrators who are performing
job functions that would normally be handled by two persons. I
see other cost-cutting measures being implemented and considered,
without compromising the effectiveness of our kids’
education.
Our tax dollars come from the citizens of this
great community, and the board takes very seriously any funding
issue. While doing so, our Greenville City Schools
have continued to show steady improvement toward the goal of achieving
Excellent status.
This is why a vote of YES is critical. A
Yes vote will allow funding to continue, and without an increase in
taxes. Thank you for supporting your Greenville City
Schools.
