Living Positive on
Less Income

I went into the store to purchase a few things to keep the bugs and
ants at bay and discovered I could not afford to get rid of the bugs,
clean the house, and eat in the same week. After giving the situation
some thought I left the store with salt, soda, Bounce, and Comet in
hand prepared to do battle at a fraction of the cost of purchasing the
advertised products.
My grandmother taught me years ago that salt and soda made a wonderful
cleaner for many places, like bathrooms tubs, sinks etc. Soda
alone is a wonderful cleanser for smooth counter tops and clothes along
with a cost effective detergent. Bounce is a wonderful mosquito
repellant and mouse proofer. Just put the bounce sheets in around
places that mice might hide or live in or around your home. Put a
sheet in your pocket or pin to your shirt when outside in the evening.
Surprise no bugs.
Now those pesky ants. I learned from a pest control person in Fla. that
Comet is a great way to get rid of ants, “Ugh”
roaches, and other crawley things. You can sprinkle it directly
on ant hills, under crawl spaces, and in the back of a cupboard
and the ants disappear, as do other types of crawley insects. I
used to put it is dresser drawers to keep out pesky bugs like the
palmetto bugs. Comet contains boric acid and bugs and mice cannot
handle boric acid.
We all know that a can of Comet goes a long way toward cleaning and
disinfecting sinks, toilets, tubs, dishes, stove
tops, and refrigerators. Try soda water with a bit of
detergent to clean floors. And I learned from a window washer that Dawn
is the best window cleaner on the market. The secret is to use only a
cap full in a bucket of water and a good rubber squeegee. Removes all
the oils from the windows which is especially good if you live near
fields that are sprayed by the crop growers. That stuff is yucky to
remove. I just saved me a bunch of money. What am I going to do with
all that savings? How about some entertainment. I can go to the movies,
bowling, to a concert, or whatever presents itself with my savings. One
way to gage your extra money is to have a jar in kitchen or somewhere
that is easy to see. Add up the money that you would have
spent----subtract the money that you did spend and put the savings into
that jar. You will be amazed at the results. And the best part is that
you are nearly bug free. WOW And don’t forget the vinegar. It will
shine your dishes, ceramic surfaces, and feed your plants. Saving money
can be fun, but more important saving money allows you to have fun.
