How to Live Positive
on Less Income
by Sharon Hopper
Hey everybody… It’s summer and we need to have some fun. Yes I said old
fashioned cost effective fun.
The Fourth of July is just around the corner and there are several
places that you can go and really have a show of shows. For instance
the whole family can go to Anderson Indiana to the Hoosier Racing Park
and enjoy a night of stage music, hot dogs, jumping balloons for the
kids, and the most spectacular fire works anywhere.
They spare no expense and the show is simulcast with music. And it is
all free! And yes the kids are welcome. This whole city of Anderson
turns out for this event. And there are plenty of fireworks around here
to see if you just want to slip off for a bit. The Eagles Park is full
of activities for the Holiday.
How about a concert in the park in Greenville city park. Every Sunday
evening starting in July a program is planned till Labor Day. And this
year the Air Force Band of Flight will be putting on two shows. If you
have never seen this group you are missing some fine entertainment.
Free!
Now our grandkids are into media gaming and I have discovered that the
biggest reason they do not play is because they do not know how to
play. So lets teach them. Once they realize what skill it takes to play
Croquette it becomes a challenge just like their video games.
Especially if grandpa can give them a handicap. It is a challenge to
beat the “old man”. Come to think of it I think a lot of adults have
forgotten how to play. What about a ball game or a game of badminton.
Doesn’t cost much and you get some exercise too. Good for the old
caboose.
How about a day trip to Huston Woods with a picnic and canoeing? Gotta
cook anyway. Might just as well make it a fun job. Have you been to
Ohio Caverns? Old Man’s Cave? There are many, many festivals in and
around the area that one could make into a day trip. But watch out
----the food costs will get you so be smart and take some with you. We
always save room for an Elephant Ear. It is amazing how much fun you
can pack into an outing or activity without spending a lot of money. So
put the cell phones away and start doing real life activities. I
guarantee you that you will soon forget you are not rich. Being rich is
partly a state of mind and the more you learn how to do without
spending the bank the happier you will become.
Happy people are positive people and they can accomplish anything they
can imagine or forget those things which disturb them. So get busy and
start looking for things to occupy the mind and stimulate the body. And
don’t forget the bargain hours at restaurants. They will save you a ton
of money and for a hour or so you can feel like you have a ton of
money. Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think.
