A message from Ohio State Treasurer Josh
Mandel
This weekend we salute and remember the men and women who paid the
ultimate sacrifice for our country. I'd like to recognize those
who served in previous generations so that we could live free today.
I am proud to be the grandson of a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, and am
thankful for the men and women who served during WWII, Korea, Vietnam,
Desert Storm and other conflicts to pave the way for young guys like
myself who had the honor to serve in this current chapter of our great
nation.
While I was proud to have the opportunity to do my small part as a U.S.
Marine in Iraq, I feel very fortunate to be writing this email with my
health and body intact. Unfortunately, so many young Americans have not
returned that way from Iraq and Afghanistan, and this weekend we also
recognize them -- the fallen Americans of today's wars -- who paid the
ultimate sacrifice and honorably carried on the traditions of
generations past so that future generations could live free.
Whether you are spending time with family at a picnic or outdoor event,
paying your respects at the gravesites of veterans, or joining in your
community's Memorial Day celebration, I hope you and your family have a
meaningful weekend. We pray together for the safe return of our
brothers and sisters still deployed in foreign lands.
Take care,
Josh
