State
Senator Bill Beagle...
Helping
Small Business Thrive
November 19, 2011
Whether
it is during a casual
conversation among friends or while tending to legislative duties in
Columbus,
I frequently find it necessary to remind people that small businesses
are the
heart of Ohio’s economy. By
drawing on
their diverse fields of expertise, the entrepreneurs and innovators who
set-up
shop in Ohio deserve credit for creating the jobs that so many of our
friends and
neighbors go to each day.
That
is why it is such an unfortunate
trend that during times of economic uncertainty, small businesses with
the
fewest means to produce a product or provide a service are too often
the ones
who are forced to sacrifice the most.
As
a small business owner myself, I understand the difficulties that come
with a
rough economic climate.
While
many elements of our economy
remain unpredictable, it is important to note that there are several
precautions a small business owner can take in order to protect his or
her
work, as well as the jobs he or she provides.
On
Monday, December 5, I will be
hosting a Small Business Lending Seminar at Sinclair Community College.
The
event is free to all area small business owners and entrepreneurs who
are
interested in learning more about issues such as, the business loan
process,
risk evaluation, credit scores, and vital decision-making. Representatives from both
the private and
public sector will be present to share their expertise and offer
insight into
Ohio’s small business landscape. Among
those entities that will be represented are the Ohio Department of
Development,
the Small Business Administration, Huntington Bank, JPMorgan Chase, PNC
Bank,
US Bank, Key Bank, Fifth Third Bank and Day-Air Credit Union.
In
planning this seminar with
officials at Sinclair Community College, I called on my own experiences
as a
banker as well as a small business owner and thought what resources
could have
helped business in times of uncertainty.
Perhaps more than ever before, Ohio’s future
hinges on the success of
these local businesses and policymakers at all levels need to continue
working
on their behalf. Through
attracting
outside industries to our state and continuing to create incentives for
existing small businesses, I am confident that Ohio will once again
recreate
itself and become a symbol of prosperous enterprise and job growth.
The
Small Business Lending Seminar
sponsored by State Senator Bill Beagle and Sinclair Community College
will be
held on Monday, December 5, 2011 from 9:00 – 11:00AM at the Frederick
C. Smith
Auditorium, 301 West Fourth Street, Dayton, OH 45410. Registration will
begin
at 8:30 AM and the seminar is free to everyone.
