Ohio Supreme Court...
Chief Justice
Supports State Issue 1
Sept. 28, 2011
A statewide ballot issue that would raise the mandatory constitutional
retirement age for Ohio judges to 75 has the support of Supreme Court
Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor.
In a one-minute video statement, Chief Justice O’Connor notes that
State Issue 1 will maintain a strong court system.
“Currently, judges cannot run for office after they turn 70,” she says.
“This arbitrary age limit eliminates some of our most experienced
judges from serving Ohio and administering justice fairly and
impartially. No other elected office has any age limit whatsoever.”
She goes on to encourage Ohio voters to learn more about state Issue 1
by accessing the Supreme Court’s website or the Ohio Judicial
Conference website.
The general election is Nov. 8.
