Life with Levi
Merry ‘Melt Down
Free’ Christmas
By Amanda Rodeheffer-Olson
By the time most of you read this, all of Levi’s presents will be open
and our second Christmas morning as a family will have passed.
And Levi (and Mommy!) will be hoping that Christmas is over!
His first Christmas gathering came at my grandparents house on the
15th. He only had a few presents to open, and we all had a blast.
So far, so good.
But for his second Christmas with my parents on Sunday, he wasn’t quite
so pumped. And Mommy is sure that it didn’t help that he’s been feeling
under the weather on top of getting teeth.
Not a good combination.
The day started with a good mood Levi, but it quickly deteriorated into
a cranky, crabby Levi. We even decided to give him a nap before we
headed to my mom’s at noon. That usually fixes everything!
But, of course, not on this day! He woke up from his nap in full
melt-down-mode.
Diaper change = melt down.
Bath = melt down.
Clothing = melt down.
By the time we tried to put his shoes and coat on, Mommy and Daddy were
ready to melt down, too!
When we got to Mom’s, all seemed well and good. Most of this was
probably due to the fact that he got to see Grandma!
Throw in Grandpa and Aunt Beej (my sister Brittany), and Levi’s mood
improved. He even ate lunch without incident.
But then out came the presents.
He was okay when we were passing things out. He even helped Grandpa
open up a couple presents.
But then came time for him to open HIS presents… And then came the melt
downs.
The first present he opened was a cup that featured a picture of Tow
Mater from the movie Cars. And he loved it!
But that was the problem… He loved it so much, that he wouldn’t put it
down to open his next present!
When Mommy tried to hide it and distract him with something new, he had
another melt down. So the cup was returned, the tears stopped, and Aunt
Beej opened a present.
Finally, he was able to put down the cup long enough to open something
new. A Leap Frog cell phone! And, of course, that, too had to be opened
immediately! There was no consoling the poor boy as Daddy tried to get
it out of the packaging.
When the cell phone was finally in his pudgy little hands, all was well
again.
The rest of the present opening progressed much the same way. And when
it was all over, he was fine again. He even settled down and had fun
watching Scooby-Doo with Grandpa.
But the melt downs continued when we got home. He had yet another melt
down when we tried to put him down for a nap. And he knows Mommy
doesn’t tolerate nap hissy-fits. He doesn’t even try that anymore, but
evidently he figured since today was special, he would try it anyway.
Yay for Mommy!
Today, we will head to Greenville to see Nana (my mother-in-law) to
have dinner and open presents.
Mommy is keeping her fingers crossed for good day! Wish me luck!
So from Levi, Merry melt-down-free Christmas, everyone!
