Obama has taken the
economy to a new low
That’s My Opinion
By Bob Robinson
Obama: Governor Romney exported American jobs to China. “He’s not the
solution. He’s the problem.”
At best, it’s a tremendous stretch of the truth; at worst it’s simply a
lie. The reference is to Romney’s affiliation with Bain Capital, an
investment company that looks for strong investments worldwide,
including American companies such as Staples.
Nowhere could I find any verifiable information that Bain was
responsible for “exporting” jobs anywhere, much less China.
In the last few days Romney counter-attacked, calling Obama the “Jobs
Exporter In Chief.”
On Tuesday night, Britt Hume, Fox News. said neither of them had much
to do with jobs leaving the U.S. He considered the topic a
mundane issue that will have little impact on the election this fall.
Obama: “The private sector is doing fine.”
While the quote was taken out of context, it was a dumb statement. The
private sector isn’t doing fine. Official unemployment is above 8
percent and unofficial unemployment is likely twice that or more. Lack
of jobs will be a major issue come November.
A Redstate columnist has documented 30 times that the president or his
administration has said that we shouldn’t be concerned about “one
month’s” jobs report.
I’m concerned, but not for me. I’m retired. I’m scared to death for
our young people… my college students, the students I work with in
K-12, my children and grandchildren.
The other issue that will have prominence in November is Obamacare.
(See my Opinion, Protecting People from their Choices, link below).
Romney is caught between a rock and a hard spot because of his
state-mandated plan in Massachusetts. The best he can do is acknowledge
that it isn’t working, he’s learned from his mistakes and that’s why he
will make sure Obamacare goes down the tubes after he takes the oath of
office in January.
Obama’s health care plan has already had a major impact on current and
future job creation thanks to the Supreme Court ruling. Members of the
National Federation of Small Businesses continue to back away from
hiring due to a potential financial liability of more than $800 billion
in new taxes as the law is implemented.
Most polls that I’ve seen report that 60-70 percent of Americans
believe our nation is on the wrong track. Forget the economists… it’s
going to take a talented Sociologist to really figure out why half the
country still supports this president and his administration.
Part of the problem could be continually extended unemployment
benefits. While many Americans are frustrated that they can’t find
jobs, others are finding they can survive quite well on government
subsidies.
I’ve had no less than a half dozen people tell me they’ll find a job
when their unemployment runs out. Since it constantly gets extended,
that may never happen. Sweden used to have unemployment benefits that
lasted five years… people got jobs after their benefits ran out. Sweden
changed it to two years. People waited until after that deadline before
looking for work.
There are always jobs at restaurants and fast food places, in some
start ups and other small companies, and retailers of all sizes. They
just can’t compete with generous unemployment benefits. Those companies pay a double-whammy. They pay for the unemployment of
others and can’t get the help they need to grow their own businesses.
There are high tech jobs galore that can’t be filled. Dayton Business
Journal reported a few months back that area companies had hundreds of
high paying, high tech jobs that they can’t fill.
More kids are looking to four-year colleges for their educations, but
are they working on careers that will provide jobs on graduation? Not
necessarily. Some students graduate with $50,000 debt and can’t find a
job. So they go back to school to get an MBA with $75,000 to $100,000
debt.
And they still can’t find a job.
I used to say that the world is changing. I was wrong. The world has
already changed. Businesses – the engines of our economy – are
changing. Rapidly. Government and society in general just isn’t keeping
up.
In fact, government actually slows the process. Today it might be
killing it. Our public servants continue to help workers stay out of the
workforce by throwing tax dollars at outdated solutions and pumping up
people and programs left behind because of their refusal to change.
This administration is making matters worse by concentrating on
“benefits” that cost even more money while killing the “golden goose”
that feeds it. The concentration needs to be on jobs for these kids
when they graduate! That means providing relief to the “golden goose.”
Have we forgotten some important training opportunities of past eras?
Many high school kids are actually “in training” in part time
specialized jobs that will move them into full time careers upon
graduation. Greenville High School, Miami Valley Career Technology
Center and others offer specialized training at the high school level.
Community colleges like Edison offer many training programs for skills
that are in high demand.
The public needs to be made more aware of these opportunities and take
advantage of them. That won’t happen, however, as long as Big Brother
continues to increase their dependency.
An economy is a complex issue. It is vibrant and alive… it is never
really stagnant. It grows or declines, depending on the decisions a
nation’s leaders make.
Obama has complained extensively that he inherited a terrible economy
from Bush when in reality he inherited it because Bush kowtowed to a
Democratic controlled Congress. One of which he was a part.
Obama has taken that declining economy to a new low and, it seems, has
convinced half of the American people to embrace it.
That’s my opinion. What’s yours?
