Speaker
Boehner in West Chester
Ohio
is Romney-Ryan Country
Speaker
John Boehner welcomed Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and GOP
leaders to his hometown of West Chester for a Victory Rally marking the
beginning of the final 72-hour push to Election Day.
Boehner called the event a “proud night” for
West Chester, as well as a “call to action,” and urged the thousands of
Ohioans
in attendance to do their part to help win the Buckeye State for Mitt
Romney,
Paul Ryan, Josh Mandel, Sharon Kennedy and the entire GOP ticket. Following is video and
full text of Boehner’s
remarks, as delivered.
“I've
been on the road for the last six weeks helping my
candidates and our ticket. And every place I go, people ask me ‘how are
we
going to do in Ohio?’
“Well,
by the looks of things tonight, I think we're in
Romney-Ryan country right here.
"I
couldn't be more proud of the team we've got on the ballot
here in Ohio this year. Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Josh Mandell, Sharon
Kennedy,
Steve Chabot, Brad Wenstrup, a team ready to bring America back.
“A
lot of you know I grew up not far from here. My
wife grew up not far from here. But we
moved here almost
38 years ago. Raised
our daughters here, moved my business here. This is our home, and I
couldn't
think of a prouder time for West Chester, Ohio than tonight.
“When
I was running my business here, I saw how government could
make it harder.
“I
saw what government could do to stifle job creation.
This is the heartland of America, and in some
ways this is where it all started for Paul Ryan as well.
“We
got involved to help save the American Dream. And
four years ago, people gave Barack Obama
a chance to do just that.
“They
believed him when he said he’d turn things around.
He talked about hope and change and post
partisan politics, and all we've gotten for the American people
isthey're hoping
for change. So here
we are four years
later, the American people are still asking the question, ‘where are
the jobs?’
We've got less jobs and we've got less freedom.
“Do
we want four more years like that?
“Can
we afford four more years like that?
“Hell
no, we can't!
“We
need more jobs and we need more freedom. Simple
as that.
“Listen,
tonight is a proud moment for our town but it's also a
call to action. If you haven't voted yet, go vote early.
Don't wait until Tuesday,
go vote early.
“You
can knock on doors, you can make phone calls. You can go to
my office. We need your help over these next four days if we're going
to bring
this thing home.
“Listen,
Ohio is where this closing push begins, and it's Ohio
where this election victory is going to be won.
“Twenty-two
years ago, I was a candidate for Congress for the
first time. And you know, if you're me you, you’ve got a handicap
trying to run
for a political office when your name looks like ‘Beaner,’ ‘Bonner,’
‘Boner.’
They're not going to vote for you unless they can say your name.
“I
was running against a former congressman who wanted his job
back, and his name was Tom Kindness. Nobody thought I could win. A lot
of you
in this audience helped me win that race.
“But
22 years ago right now, there was a 20-year-oldMiami student
putting yard signs up for me in Ohio [applause].
“It’s
kind of hard for a Xavier Musketeer to call out the Miami
guys, but 22 years ago tonight, I had a 20 year-old Miami student
putting up
yard signs for me in Trenton, Ohio.
“I've
known Paul Ryan a long time. He’s one of
the most decent honest guys you'll
ever meet. One of the
smartest guys in Congress. Knows
more
about pro-growth policies than anybody. Somebody who can help lead our
country.
But he's also a great father and a great husband.
“Help
me welcome the next Vice President of the United States,
Paul Ryan.”
