A lack of ethics
That’s My Opinion
By Bob Robinson
Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast last week. Not having seen
much about the recovery efforts on the newscasts in the last couple of
days – I think I saw one follow-up on CBS – I did a search on the
Internet.
Nothing. Well, almost nothing. The New York Times did a story… but this
is their turf. I would hope at least they would be covering it. It was
a story of waiting for help… and waiting… and waiting… and waiting.
This is a far cry from the almost hourly coverage of the President
getting accolades from everybody for being “Johnny on the Spot” and
saying the federal government will do whatever is necessary to get
everyone through this terrible time.
I saw that on every newscast I watched for the full 24-48 hours
following his visit to the devastated area before heading back out onto
the campaign trail.
Anyone remember the coverage – for weeks – about the lack of federal
government support after Katrina? Weeks on end. But that was the Bush
Administration.
This is the Obama Administration, folks. Time to move on.
New information comes out almost daily about the Terrorist attack in
Libya. It seems that we recently discovered (if we watch Fox News) that
CIA operatives were two of the four Americans killed… defending the
Consulate, reportedly against orders to “stand down.”
They were killed approximately seven – read that… SEVEN – hours after
the attack began. This was reportedly being watched on “real time”
video surveillance from a U.S. drone.
So much for our emergency tactical response team that I understand
wasn’t even convened to determine a plan of action when this started.
But of course we couldn’t really do anything. This was simply a riot
brought on by a U.S. citizen’s video. We obviously can’t intervene in
an internal affair over a lousy video, for crying out loud! Not without
permission from the Libyan government.
I guess.
In a recent press briefing (not involving the president, of course), a
question was asked about it. It was not answered.
“I will not be addressing that issue,” I believe was the response I
heard in a Fox News video of the briefing.
I had a meeting on another issue on Friday. As is often the case, Libya
was brought up (not by me). This young woman said she was absolutely
furious about the way this administration handled the attack on the U.S.
While I vaguely remember hearing a brief about the CIA operatives, I’d
heard little else. I did a search to find out if the media was doing
anything on the latest developments and the administration’s role in
them.
Lots of stuff from Fox News. Only one story from the Washington Post
(another bastion of right wing lunatics, I guess). The Huffington Post
said it was turning into a political football. Not sure how… I’ve seen
no ads and the mainstream media seems to have forgotten all about it.
This is the Obama administration, folks. Time to move on.
I find it even more interesting that after weeks of Romney closing the
gap in the polls and eventually showing a tie, or even a 1 or 2-point
lead on occasion, suddenly Obama is out in front again… as much as five
or six points, according to some polls. The NBC/WSJ poll has Obama in
front of Romney by six points in Ohio.
Rasmussen has them tied, both nationally and in Ohio.
Then I heard about another possibility. Color me naïve. Pollsters have
a tendency to lack balance when putting registered Democrats,
Republicans and Independents in their polling samples.
Okay. Fair enough. Rasmussen can be accused of doing the same thing. We
all know where the media stands; it’s a done deal that their polling
samples would be biased as well.
This is the Obama administration, folks. He needs another four years to
finish the job.
Dick Morris, on the other hand, is keeping an eye on the number of
Democrats and Republicans voting early. He says the Dems number is way
down from four years ago and the Reps number is way up.
Early voters are a sign of the direction the vote was going to take on
election day, he said. Consequently, he predicts a huge win for Romney.
Obama is evidently not going to get the turnout he had then, and the
Republicans are adamant about getting their candidate into the White
House.
So why am I wasting time to write this? After all, I said recently that
a small town editor is not going to change the world. And we all know
we’re going to see the ultimate “poll” Tuesday night or Wednesday
morning.
It’s just that I’m furious!
Obama doesn’t surprise me. I knew it was coming four years ago when
voters were swooning over his “Hope & Change” rhetoric. He told us
what he was going to do and we bought it… hook, line and sinker. I knew
it, I dreaded it and he did it.
On Saturday I saw a video outtake where Obama told his supporters to
vote for him out of “revenge.” For what I have no clue. Revenge against
the country that is the envy of the world? Revenge against the country
that he wants to fundamentally change?
Romney noted it, too. He told his supporters to vote for him out of
“love of country.”
I doubt I’ll see those video clips on CBS, ABC or NBC. After all it’s
the Obama administration, folks. He needs four more years to finish
the job.
It’s the Fourth Estate that I’m upset about. The profession I’ve been
proud to be part of for so many years.
It’s the lack of ethics in the mainstream media that has me furious.
Worse than that, it has me ashamed.
That’s My Opinion. What’s Yours?
