Life with Levi
A not-so-hoppy Easter
By Amanda Rodeheffer-Olson
All of last week, I was envisioning an Easter day filled with family,
laughter and lots of memories to hold on to until next year.
But unfortunately, all I got was a sick husband, a sick baby and a
migraine that just wouldn’t quit.
So instead of heading to my Aunt Carolyn’s for lunch, then my
mother-in-law’s for an awesome Easter egg hunt, we all stayed home in
our sick little bubble so as not to infect all of the healthy people
that we love.
And poor little Levi missed out on all the fun that Easter brings. He
didn’t get to go see my Dad’s side of the family, most of whom we only
get to see on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. He didn’t get to
color Easter eggs with Aunt Beej on Saturday because that’s when the
icky little flu bug got ahold of him, and he just wasn’t feeling up to
it. And he didn’t get to hunt Easter eggs at home because we didn’t
color any, in addition to missing Nana’s Easter egg hunt with his
cousin Jayden.
I have to say that I was also sad that we missed Nana’s Easter egg
hunt… Last year, she hid over 200 plastic eggs in her yard (front AND
back). It was so awesome that four or five eggs were still missing when
we finally gave up a couple hours later.
It was fun. But poor Levi wasn’t big enough to participate. Mostly
because he couldn’t walk on his own yet.
I was really looking forward to watching Levi scamper around the yard,
hunting for eggs and getting really excited when he found them.
But it just wasn’t to be.
He did get to hunt for Easter eggs a week ago at my Mom’s house. Aunt
Beej hid 10 eggs for him to find. He had a blast… And now he thinks
that there are eggs hidden in Grandma’s living room every time we go
over there now.
The one thing that we did get to do was give Levi his Easter basket.
And he was thrilled. He proceeded to eat half of the Teddy Grahams I
got him (one of the little plastic containers that you find in the
check-out lane at Wal-Mart) and two packs of Smarties. But he wasn’t so
thrilled when Mommy cut him off from his sugar supply.
Next we colored in his new coloring books with his new crayons from the
Easter “Munny” as Levi was calling him. So cute.
And he became extremely attached to his Easter basket, which was a blue
dragon stuffed animal with a hole in his back and a handle across it.
Not sure why, but he sure thought that dragon was cool.
So while it wasn’t exactly the day I’d planned in my head, I still
ended up with some cute memories from Easter.
I got to color with my baby, got an Easter care package from my Grandma
Patty who brought us some leftovers from the family gathering that we
missed, and best of all…
I got to put my little boy to bed that night with his dragon Easter
basket. He actually wanted to cuddle with it, but I talked him into
letting it sit in the corner of his bed above his head.
Can’t wait to tell his high school girlfriend about that one!
