Life with Levi
Daddy’s Little Helper
By Amanda Rodeheffer-Olson
Well, we survived the “Blizzard” of 2012. Mommy and Levi didn’t leave
the house until Thursday after the level 3 was dropped, but just
because we didn’t leave the house doesn’t mean we didn’t have any fun!
Since we got snowed in on the day after Christmas, that meant that Levi
still had a few Christmas gifts that still hadn’t come out of the box
(some assembly required). So once Daddy got home from work, he and Levi
got busy putting them together.
Daddy got out all the pieces for Levi’s Loopy Tower Amusement Park
thingy and laid them out neatly on the floor before grabbing the
directions.
And as Daddy was getting out the directions, Levi was grabbing pieces
off of the floor and taking off with them!
It was priceless! Daddy would reach for a piece only to find that Levi
was running towards the living room with it.
So Daddy would yell for Levi to bring it back. And of course Levi,
being a typical little boy, wouldn’t listen. And all the while, Daddy
is looking at me, telling me that I’m not being much help, which was
true since I was just laughing my butt off and taking pictures of them.
Once all of the pieces were back where they were supposed to be, Daddy
was finally making some progress since Levi figured out that the box
was more fun than running around with the pieces anyway.
Levi would climb in the box, plop down, spin around, struggle to get
up, climb out of the box, then start the whole process over again. He
played that way for a good 10 to 15 minutes.
Mommy got pictures of that, too!
Back at the loopy tower, Daddy was just about finished when Levi
realized that he wasn’t helping Daddy anymore. So he made his way back
over to help again… this time, by putting his toy cars on the ramps and
letting them slide all the way to the bottom, so that they were in
Daddy’s way.
I’m still snapping pictures when I get another look from Daddy… But I
just laugh and tell him that I’m documenting the moment so that in the
future he can look back and laugh, too.
I just got another look at that comment.
Finally, the loopy thing is together, and Daddy is showing Levi how to
put his cars in the launcher at the top so that when he pushes a
button, they shoot down the ramp and go around the loop at the bottom.
Only Levi isn’t paying much attention, of course, because he just
realized that the ramp is the piece he was having fun running around
with, and now it’s stuck on the loopy thing.
Can anyone say ‘melt down’?
Luckily, Daddy got Levi distracted enough with the cars to avoid the
melt down, and they were actually having fun for a little bit. Even
though Levi was only paying attention to pushing the button, and had no
idea his cars were shooting down the ramp and looping at the bottom.
So, with that project completed, the next project was Levi’s new table
that was also some assembly required.
But this time, Daddy was smart enough to get Levi distracted with a
movie and toys in the other room before getting started.
I would just like to thank Nana, Daddy’s mom, for getting the loopy
thing for Levi. It was the best Christmas present that anyone could
have gotten for me ☺ And not to mention the fact that Daddy got a
taste of what he was like as a kid… So thanks again, Nana! Just wish
you could have been here to see it, because you would have been
laughing your butt off with me!
