Life with Levi
He did it for the nim-nims
By Amanda Olson

It’s potty time.

A while back, Aaron (Daddy) and I decided that we would go ahead and get Levi a potty chair, just in case the mood to potty train struck our little boy.

And it has.

And it still is. Nearly every twenty minutes is seems.

At first, he started out slowly. He wanted to sit on his potty chair every now and again, with his pants still on. Then he slowly progressed to wanting to sit on it, sans pants.

Now he is doing his business on his potty chair at least once a day, sometimes more. And he is choosing to sit on his potty as often as possible. Sometimes, too often.

His desire to sit on his potty greatly increased when we decided to start rewarding him for doing his thing. Whenever he does something worthwhile on his potty, he gets to choose from Chips Ahoy cookies, freeze-dried apple slices (which are tastier than they sound) and M’n’Ms.

Or nim-nims as Levi calls them.

After the first time I gave him a reward following his “deposit” he thought every time he sat on his potty, he should get something. So now every time he gets a hankering for nim-nims, he comes up and asks for them, pointing to the cupboard where they are kept. When we tell him that he only gets those after he goes potty, he immediately wants to go sit on his potty.

Sometimes once or twice an hour.

So whenever he decides it’s time to “go,” he’ll head into the bathroom, get settled in, then look up and smile, saying, “I did it!” And according to Levi, farting on the potty should be rewarded with nim-nims.

But I can’t really complain. He just turned two and he’s willingly sitting on his potty, and even going from time to time. I’ve heard lots of parents talk about how they struggled with their children just to get them to sit on the toilet.

Not Levi. He’s all gung-ho about the potty thing.

Well, he is for now. At least until we run out of nim-nims.
