“From
the Other Side of the Edge….”
Gun
Control? ……or just
CONTROL???
By Joe Facinoli
The
Second Amendment to our Constitution guarantees and allows any
citizen of the United States of America the right to possess and own
Black Hawk
helicopter gunships, machine gun turrets, and any Sherman Tank which
they can
find, if they so desire, and can afford them.
And
a half million rounds of ammo, too, if they want.
Really. Find
and show me anything to the contrary.
“A
well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a
free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed.”
One
paragraph, twenty seven words.
Nothing
in there about the weapons being safe enough to have around
kids, or only to be displayed at appropriate times, like parades and
military
funerals, and not being too threatening, nor needing to be pretty
little
things, acceptable at social gatherings, and hidden away, save that
someone be
taken faint, at the very sight.
Nor
any mention which I can see, about size and capacity of the
magazines attached to these weapons, nor how many bullets, shells,
rockets,
etc., might be sufficient to make our righteous citizen feel secure,
against
whatever the gloom of night may bring.
Also,
no wording included as to the qualifications of anyone, any
citizen, who might choose to take up these arms.
No details, nor instructions regarding
background checks, fingerprinting, civic, mental, nor social stability,
nothing
like that from these recent warriors, who knew instinctively just who
they
could trust, and who not to.
The
law of common sense certainly applies to all things, and does
here. But
that seemingly safe ground
can turn quickly into a slippery slope, in the hands of those who see
no need
for guns, nor for personal defense mechanisms, of any type.
Just
who decides which persons are “qualified”, and how much
training one should have, and what or how much of other parts of a
person’s
life should be judged, in order to allow them to “keep and bear arms”.
All
sounds like birds of different colors to me, each singing its
own version of “infringement”, upon that universally given right.
And
no one yet I’ve listened to, has been wise enough, nor seer
enough, to predict just how many bullets one might need to protect
themselves
in a given situation.
Clips
and mags come with room for ten, or twelve, or thirty shells
or more, because they are made in just that manner, with good purpose,
so as to
provide for proper and efficient usage when faced with someone, or
worse, a lot
of someones, who aren’t really all that concerned about whether your
neighbor
thinks you pack too many bullets in your semi-automatic handgun (or
your A-K).
They’re
GUNS, for God’s sake!! They are MEANT to hurt people, when those same
people do bad things to
us, or threaten us, or take liberties with our lives, homes, families,
and
communities.
The
word “State” in the 2nd Amendment means EACH State within the
United union of States, and NOT the Federal government.
Specifically not. And that was the Founders’ original
intent: to
allow resistance to the
central government, if necessary, by these states, as well as by any
individuals.
Some
today are fond of saying that there is no need to fear the
federal government in this modern age, and that the media, the court
system,
and the sophistication of our society now, would prevent any government
from
lording over the citizenry in such a way that armed insurrection would
be
needed.
To
this, one only needs to remember a very sophisticated and
civilized Europe, and Germany in particular, from just a relatively
short time
ago. And
to think of several other
examples, on a smaller scale, where outside armed assistance was
needed, to rid
a country of its government or ruler, which had taken over the people
there,
one rights denying step at a time.
Having
just thrown off a totally despotic, out of touch tyrant, our
Founders were not about to let another form of central control take any
kind of
shape, in the new nation which they were inventing.
Right
after the four initial individual freedoms were enshrined
(religion, speech, press, and right to assemble) in the First
Amendment, our
original Patriots made sure, with a simple clarity, that no government
which
they would make, would have any ability to separate them from their
weaponry,
and that said body would have no power to regulate the possession
thereof.
None
of them wanted to go through revolution again, but just as
fervently, none of them were completely ready to trust a central
governing body
very quickly. And with equal certainty,
none were afraid to take one down again, should that be necessary. Hence their need
and insistence for
Amendment #2.
That
precious freedom still remains for us today, despite the wants
and inclinations of our “modern society”.
And
as well, largely because of the inabilities of far too many,
who simply cannot see (or refuse to see), these very same dangers, seen
so
clearly by our prescient and protective forefathers, those being a
bloated,
arrogant, and out of touch federal government, slowly given far too
much
control of daily lives, little by little over the many years, and the
unchecked
national leaders in charge of it, who circumvent daily the very
document which
gave them office and power, still remain today.
But
as serious as this is, it is only a symptom, or an ingredient,
of a much larger cultural happening. That of a movement towards government
ultimately controlling all, and
reducing all of those specifically granted freedoms and rights to mere
privileges, to fond remembrances, and to wishful pipedreams.
This
“Progressive Movement” not only has no faith in human nature
to do and fend for themselves, but worse, has no trust in their own
beliefs
(nor their ability to convey them), to any degree necessary to convince
others
to follow.
Therefore,
they only see control, and the grabbing of all power
over the populace as the path, no matter how small the particular or
the venue,
nor how insignificantly perceived the situation, in order to form a
larger,
more all-encompassing power base, by the aggregate of all that “little
stuff”.
The
Libs see a crack, or a way into a new power grab, and they
immediately want to shove a finger, or a foot, right into that opening,
and
force their way in, imposing their will for good.
Especially
if they can take advantage of a particularly sad or grievous
event, such as Sandy Hook, or Aurora, or anywhere else some deranged
individual
pops into the public light, sometimes just randomly.
The
supposed “caring” of this group is bogus. And when further analyzed is just a spend
fest, on over sensitive steroids, to whatever purpose they see fit
(regardless
of public wants or actual needs), and to their own best interest.
They
want, and need, to have full control, so their power base, and
their spending habits, can continue on endlessly. And the best way they can assure themselves
of this continuance, is to make certain that their “resistance” is
toothless
and unarmed.
Common
sense with guns is a two way street.
Use
it wisely and properly, and you can live comfortably, securely,
and in relative safety. Allow others to
use it to convince you to give up your rights and protection, in the
name of
the “good of the community”, and you might find yourself looking at the
wrong
end of your own firearm. Figuratively,
as well as in reality.
“Keep
Calm, and Carry One”. But when needed: Lock and
Load.
