Life with Levi
Levi’s snowy day
By Amanda Rodeheffer-Olson

Even though Levi is nearing his second birthday, he has never
experienced snow. Or at least playing in it.
He’s seen his share of snow over the last couple of winters, but the
poor little guy has always been too sick to go out and play in it. And
of course Mommy isn’t going to send her sick baby boy outside in the
cold even if it is for a little fun.
So finally, last week when we got what will turn out to be our last big
snow before spring, Levi got to go outside and play.
Levi has always loved playing outdoors. He even plays with his toy cars
on the windowsill of the picture window in our living room so that he
can see outside. That and he likes watching cars go by and going,
“Vroom! Vroom!” when they do.
But before he was allowed to go out this time, he had to get into his
snowsuit. And in true little kid fashion, his arms were sticking
straight out to his sides because he was packed in there so tight.
After strapping on his boots, and fastening his hat under his chin, he
was ready to go.
He seemed a little unsure at first, and his first few steps were taken
slowly. But by the time he made it to the middle of the yard, he was
ready to play.
Daddy showed him how to make snowballs, and Levi had fun throwing them
into the air, watching them plop back into the snow when they hit the
ground.
He was really enjoying himself and really getting the hang of walking
in the snow… But then he decided to try and run.
Not a good idea.
Levi landed on all fours, face down in the snow. And since the snow was
as deep as his arms are long, he was literally face down in the snow.
Daddy quickly saved him, and Levi was off again.
He had a blast kicking the snow, throwing the snow, and patting the
tree out back. (No idea why smacking the tree was so funny, but he
giggled every time.)
After a lot of playing, and a few more face-first falls, it was time
for Levi to go inside and warm up. He wasn’t too keen on that idea.
Later that night, Daddy had to run an errand, and Levi grabbed his
boots, thinking that Daddy was going to take him out to play in the
snow some more. He was very upset when he realized that Daddy wasn’t
taking him anywhere.
And every day after that up until the snow melted, Levi was insistent
on making it known that he wanted to go play again.
Guess snow is an ok think in Levi’s book. Or at least when he’s not
facedown in it.
