Life with Levi
My second Mom-Mom’s
Day
By Amanda Rodeheffer-Olson, Editor
For me, Mother’s Day has always taken a long time to get here.
Literally.
My first Mother’s Day came after waiting what seemed like forever.
Since Levi was born at 11:09 a.m. the day AFTER Mother’s Day in 2011, I
literally had to wait a full year to get my first Mother’s Day. And
since I went into labor at 12:03 a.m., I couldn’t even claim that he
was my Mother’s Day gift, just a little late. No, leave it to my son to
be stubborn.
But anyway, my second Mother’s Day (or Mom-Mom’s Day since that’s my
given name by Levi) started out pretty fantastic. I got breakfast in
bed: scrambled eggs a la Daddy, with a crying Levi in tow for the
delivery. (Daddy had to bribe Levi with Curious George fruit snacks to
get him to follow him into my bedroom... That’s love!)
My eggs were delicious, and my present from my boys was already on the
front porch since it was really hard to hide a giant flowerpot
containing a rose bush. Salmon colored roses, too: my favorite!
The most unfortunate thing about the whole day was that my husband
Aaron had to work, so I didn’t get to spend much time with him. Because
after all, I wouldn’t be a Mom-Mom without my Daddy counterpart.
On the upside though, Levi and I went flower shopping with my Mom, Dad
and sister Brittany. We also went out to eat and visited with my
Grandmother for a while.
And to top it all off, Brittany made a coconut cream pie for Mom, which
she shared with the rest of us (because she’s a great Mom!).
I even got to take some senior pictures of Brittany posing on the
railroad tracks near our house. (I love photography!)
All in all, it was a pretty good day.
Then, just as the night was wrapping up, and it was nearing Levi’s
bedtime, a baby tragedy struck.
Levi threw up.
Since I’ve only ever had one child, I don’t really know if this is true
of all children, but when Levi throws up, it’s a catastrophe (for him).
He can be just fine up until the time that he throws up, then after
it’s all said and done, he has a meltdown. Which only makes him throw
up more.
Luckily, Lambie was behind Levi when it all went down. (Lambie II is
much, much luckier than the first Lambie, thank goodness!)
So by the time that everything was cleaned up, the baby bathed, and the
lamb hidden, the last hour of my Mother’s Day was over.
Hopefully Mother’s Day Part III doesn’t go out with quite so much of a
bang…
