Eleven companies to invest $471 million, impacting more than 4,000 jobs
Governor John Kasich announced the approval of assistance for eleven
projects set to create 2,103 jobs and retain 1,928 jobs statewide.
During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority reviewed
economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its
regional partners. Collectively, the projects are expected to result in
$73,434,938 in new payroll, and spur more than $470,785,241 million in
investment across Ohio.
Ohioans believe they're better off
A new poll released by Quinnipiac this week shows that 60% of Ohioans
support the direction Ohio is going three years into Kasich's term.
Governor John Kasich and our Republican leadership have worked
tirelessly to get Ohio back to work and attract new businesses to
invest in our state. 263,000 private sector jobs have been created in
the last three years and unemployment is at its lowest rate since 2008.
This poll shows that Ohioans are happy with Republican efforts and are
optimistic things will continue to improve with their leadership.
The poll also shows how little Ed FitzGerald is known even within his
own county. Over 65% of Ohio voters still do not know who the
Democratic candidate for governor is. Check out this website to learn
more about who Ed FitzGerald is.
Kasich-Taylor campaign launches new mobile app
The Kasich Taylor for Ohio campaign rolled out a new mobile app to make
it easier for Ohioans to get involved, stay engaged, and share campaign
updates with friends and family. This groundbreaking way to
connect with voters includes the latest news from the campaign, and
will alert users when new surveys and volunteer opportunities are
available.
Kasich-Taylor stand with coal
Lt. Governor Mary Taylor spoke at a rally in Pennsylvania in support of
our nation's coal workers this week. The event was organized to counter
proposed federal regulations that could greatly harm the coal industry.
The coal industry supports approximately 33,000 jobs in Ohio and is a
crucial energy source for Ohio consumers and businesses. Governor John
Kasich also filmed a video for the rally, reaffirming his and Mary
Taylor' support for Ohio's coal industry and the families it sustains.
Senate President Keith Faber and Senator Troy Balderson were also
present at the event in Pittsburgh. While there, President Faber and
Senator Balderson stated their strong support for the coal industry.
"The Obama administration has declared a war on coal, and we're not
going to let their radical agenda destroy our economy," said Senator
Faber. "The coal industry provides efficient and affordable energy to
millions of Americans and provides good jobs for thousands of Ohioans,
Pennsylvanians, and West Virginians."
Standing up for Religious Liberty
On Wednesday, Senator Rob Portman introduced a resolution in the United
States Senate condemning the violence against Christians and other
religious minorities in Iraq.
Senator Portman and his wife Jane were in central Ohio on Friday
visiting the Ohio State Fair and discussing the importance of Ohio's
agriculture industry. Senator Portman also discussed his efforts to
improve our workforce at the Ohio Association for Career and Technical
Education and held a round-table at Buckeye Lake to discuss his efforts
to combat harmful algal blooms.
Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association endorse DeWine
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced this week that the
Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association have endorsed his campaign for
reelection.
"I began my career in law enforcement as Greene County Prosecutor and
I've made working hand-in-hand with law enforcement a top priority ever
since," Attorney General DeWine said. "I'm honored to receive the
endorsement of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association."
CPPA President Jeffrey Follmer praised the job DeWine has done. Since
taking office, Attorney General DeWine has devoted significant
resources to improving and expanding services offered to Ohio's law
enforcement officers.
Yost Investigation Leads to First Conviction in Columbus Data Rigging
Scandal
Thanks to the good work of Auditor Yost and his team, the first culprit
in the Columbus City Schools data rigging scandal became a convicted
criminal. Steve Tankovich, the mastermind behind the scheme,
entered into a plea deal Thursday with Franklin County Prosecutor Ron
O'Brien.
"He is the architect. His plea is going to set the stage for everything
that follows," Auditor Yost told the Columbus Dispatch. "The other
shoes are going to start dropping like balloons in a convention hall."
As part of his plea deal, Tankovich will cooperate with prosecutors and
serve as a witness in subsequent cases. His attorney even
admitted that former Superintendent Gene Harris was fully aware of the
data manipulation and lied. Stay tuned.
Ohio Strong Award presented in Akron
Earlier this week, Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel was in Akron to present a
tire mold maker Ratko Maslenjak with an Ohio Strong Award. The
recipient immigrated from Bosnia in 2000 and has been working for over
a decade as a skilled tradesman. Treasurer Mandel launched Ohio Strong
earlier this year to bring pride and profile to the skilled trades and
to show the important role they play in our economy.
"To be healthy and vibrant as a state, we have to make things,"
Treasurer Mandel said during his visit. You can read more about
Treasurer Mandel's trip here.
