State Representative Jim Buchy
A Very Merry
Christmas for Ohioans
Once again, the Christmas season is upon us. This year, many households
in Ohio are poised to have a better Christmas than in years past. We
have worked hard over this past year to put people back to work and in
positions to provide for their families.
Earlier in the fall the state unemployment rate was 5.3 percent, down
nearly two whole points from the same time last year. In western Ohio
that number is closer to 4 percent. More and more people are
finding gainful employment, which is great news when it comes time to
putting the presents under the tree.
We have to also reduce taxes so hardworking Ohioans can focus on
stuffing stockings for their children rather than stuffing government
coffers. I know and believe that money is best kept in the people’s
hands rather than taken away for someone else to determine how a
person’s hard earned wages should be spent.
Speaking of spending those wages, the biggest retail season of the year
is coming to an end. In order to prepare for Christmas, many
families have been saving money over the course of the year. In
doing so they have been thinking about the presents to purchase for
loved ones. Throughout that process the spirit of giving has been
invoked. Ultimately looking back we will all be most appreciative
of the time we had together with friends and family.
In the past couple of years under the leadership of Governor John
Kasich, many Ohio families have enjoyed better holiday seasons with
fewer worries about how the bills will be paid. The new year promises
continued policies that promote smaller government with a focus on less
red tape and bureaucracy.
In west central Ohio we have the best place in the world to live, work
and rear a family. I will continue working to protect the way we
live and promote the good hearts of our people locally.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New
Year.
