Wishing
Ohioans a Safe & Happy July 4th Holiday
Two
hundred and thirty-eight years ago this last weekend, farmers,
merchants, laborers, and soldiers celebrated a new nation with the
patriotism that has continued to carry America forward. I am honored
to represent Ohio in this great nation.
As
we fly flags to celebrate our nation’s independence, we honor the
birth of our nation while committing to America’s future. In order
to honor the women and men of our armed services, our veterans, and
all our military families, and to support American workers and
businesses, I introduced the All-American Flag Act, requiring
American flags bought by the federal government to be produced
entirely with American-made materials. Currently, the federal
government is required to purchase flags made from only 50 percent
American-made materials.
Last
week, this bill came one step closer to becoming law when it passed
through committee. But there’s more work to do. American flags
should be American made. With Ohio companies proudly producing the
American flag, taxpayer funds should not be used to purchase those
made in other countries. It’s one way to honor our veterans and
support American workers and businesses.
Through
my website, Ohioans can request a flag that has been flown at the
United States Capitol Building to be shipped and delivered to their
home. Ohioans can also contact my office for assistance with getting
answers from the federal government, visiting our Nation’s Capital,
or requesting military records and medals. More information can be
found here.
Connie
and I wish you a safe, happy, and healthy July 4th holiday.
Sincerely,
Sherrod
Brown
