U.S.
Representative John Boehner
Days
Before Memorial Day, Senate Democrats Block More VA Accountability
WASHINGTON,
DC -- Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following
statement after Senate Democrats blocked consideration of the VA
Management Accountability Act (H.R. 4031), which passed on an
overwhelmingly bipartisan basis yesterday:
“As
we head into the Memorial Day weekend, I am disappointed, and –
frankly – shocked that Senate Democratic leaders chose to block
legislation that would hold VA managers accountable, which passed the
House with strong support from both parties. This bill is not the
whole solution to the systemic problems plaguing the VA, but it is a
crucial first step – and there is no substantive objection to it at
all. None. As we head home to honor the men and women who have
sacrificed so much for our freedom, it’s fair to ask why Senate
Democrats won’t stand up for more accountability?”
NOTE:
In response to the scandal unfolding at Veterans Administration
hospitals nationwide, yesterday the House of Representatives passed
the VA Management Accountability Act (H.R. 4031), legislation that
makes it easier to hold senior VA leaders accountable.
At
his weekly press briefing today, Congressman John Boehner (R-West
Chester) discussed the scandal at the VA, citing the stories he has
heard from veterans in the 8th District and in the Dayton Daily News.
