Ohio Republican Party Update
Greetings!

Following Tuesday's Primary Election, we came together as a party Saturday night at our State Dinner to share the story of our state's comeback over the last three years and get our candidates re-elected.  Since Republicans took office nearly 250,000 jobs have been created, our unemployment rate is at its lowest point since 2006, the state's Rainy Day Fund has been fully restored, and taxes have been reduced by nearly $3 billion. One thing is clear: Republicans are the right choice for Ohio. We cannot allow Democrats to turn Ohio's clock back and reverse the great work our leadership has done. United, we will return Republicans back to leadership in November.

Our Annual State Dinner
Our Party has united behind candidates who believe in creating jobs, cutting taxes, balancing budgets, protecting life and our Constitutional rights, and fighting Obamacare. Over 850 Republicans joined us to hear from leaders across the state who have devoted their last four years to Ohio's comeback. Governor John Kasich was the keynote speaker and we were honored to have Governor Haley Barbour as our special guest for the evening.

During his speech, Governor Barbour kept with the week's theme, stressing unity within the Republican Party. "Somebody who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and ally, not a 20 percent enemy," Barbour said, quoting the great Ronald Reagan. The night was a testament to what the Republican Party is capable of when we all come together and work as one. Thank you to all those who attended the event and made it such a success!

Coalition members hosted for training
Before the State Dinner we also hosted training for everyone involved in our Coalitions Program. The Coalitions Program was started as a way to build a grassroots effort around seven core coalitions: agriculture, educators, faith and values, second amendment, small business, sportsmen, and veterans across all 88 counties. 70 members attended the event and were given briefings from all of our statewide campaigns, social media advice, and other information to help them build their networks, and prepare them for the 2014 ground game. If you're interested in joining a coalition please email Jen Thrasher at Thrasher@OhioGOP.org.

What's Democrat Ed FitzGerald hiding?
The Columbus Dispatch editorial board is now joining the call for Democrat Ed FitzGerald to disclose his key card activity that would show how often he has been in Cuyahoga County buildings. The information is being requested to see how FitzGerald is splitting his time between his tax-payer funded job as Cuyahoga County Executive and his run for governor. The Democrat has made transparency a major issue in his campaign, yet he is refusing to release his own comings and goings, information that would show how active he has been as the highest governing agent in Cuyahoga County.

"Refusing to release such ordinary information is a blatant violation of open-records law. It also raises a question: Why doesn't FitzGerald want voters to know where he spends his time?" the editorial asks.

The Dispatch now joins good government groups, other Democrats, and the Plain Dealer editorial board  who wrote: "By not turning over these public records, the giant sucking sound you hear is FitzGerald's credibility going south," in the call  to release the records.

Jobs coming to Wooster
On May 8th, Governor John Kasich joined Daisy Brand executives, Department of Agriculture Director Dave Daniels, and JobsOhio officials to welcome the Texas based company to Ohio. The dairy product producer announced plans to locate their cottage cheese plant in Wooster last year and is now breaking ground on the $125 million project. About 90 jobs are expected to come from the new plant. Daisy looked at locations across the Midwest to put their new manufacturing plant, ultimately choosing Ohio because of the friendly atmosphere in Wooster for their future employees and also the pro-business environment of the state. The facility is slated to begin operation in 2015.

The Daisy groundbreaking comes on the heels of an editorial by the Lima News highlighting Governor Kasich's great work in creating jobs in the state. When he ran for Governor, John Kasich vowed that he would change the state's employment picture and "he's making good on that promise as he heads down the home stretch of his first term as governor." Ohio has created an environment that attracts companies to want to do business across the state. From Lima to Wooster, Cleveland to Cincinnati, Ohio is attracting jobs and investment due to Governor Kasich's devotion to turning Ohio around.

Energy Efficiency Bill will help our country
This week, Senator Rob Portman urged his colleagues to support his bipartisan Energy Efficiency Bill. During his remarks on the Senate floor, Portman laid out the importance of the bill and how it can greatly help the American people.

"Let's do something that will help move our country forward," he said of the bill that helps manufacturers in Ohio and around the country employ the best technology and cut down their costs.

By cutting costs the companies can invest in more plants, equipment, and people. The legislation has received widespread support from Democrats and Republicans as well as industry leaders, energy-efficiency advocates, and environmental stakeholders because it reduces pollution, saves consumers money, and creates jobs.

Allen County hosts Mike DeWine
Attorney General Mike DeWine attended the Allen County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner on May 5th. "Voting matters," DeWine said to the crowd the day before the Republican Primary election.

Attorney General DeWine then detailed what Republican state leaders have done to make the state better over the last four years including his own office and the work of Governor Kasich.

"It matters that John Kasich is governor. We have a great future in this state. I am an optimist and I think Ohio's best days are yet to happen." Read more about the event here.

Careless bookkeeping discovered in audit
Auditor Yost discovered $278,000 of unsupported spending by conversion schools in Liberty Local School District. Sloppy book keeping was the main culprit since schools officials were unable to provide information related to why taxpayer dollars were being spent. When tax dollars are spent at Toys-R-Us and bowling alleys, the public has a right to know why. Fortunately Auditor Yost and his team of investigators were able to find this abuse and taxpayers will be getting their money back.

Happy Mother's Day
As many of you know, our Secretary of State Jon Husted was adopted as a child. On this Mother's Day weekend, Secretary Husted would like to share his story with you with this video. Mothers do so much to help us become who we are today. Make sure you take a moment to celebrate your mother today, and if you are a mother yourself, Happy Mother's Day!

Treasurer Mandel hosts town hall meetings
Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel joined business and community leaders for town hall meetings this week in Dayton and Cincinnati.  During his visits, Treasurer Mandel provided the town hall attendees with updates on the Treasurer's Office and the work he is doing in Columbus.  The town halls give Treasurer Mandel and those in attendance an opportunity to share ideas on workforce development and hear firsthand what is happening in their local communities.

Mingo and Rosenberger 'rising political stars'
This week MSNBC's Daily Rundown featured a segment on the rising stars in Ohio politics. Among those that received accolades were State Representative Cliff Rosenberger and Clarence Mingo. Representative Rosenberger received notice for his work in the legislature. Clarence Mingo was featured for his work as the Franklin County Auditor.

Sincerely,
Matt Borges
