From the Other Side of the Edge….
Political Witch
Doctors, …doing the Ebola “Heap Good Medicine” Dance
By Joe Facinoli
No disrespect to Native American medical “practitioners”, of a time
long ago, but even those guys would have a better chance at curing
Ebola, and tending for those inflicted with it, than what we’ve got
going for us, …today.
With a full spiritual commitment to their purposeful rituals and
dances, and their artfully crafted, songful cadences of hypnotic
rhythms, they showed they actually cared about their “patients” first,
with their reputations and political status, …coming in quite a bit
further down the line.
Uh, …not so much, with our current shameful crop of “medicine
men”, and “tribal leaders”, trying so desperately to explain away the
oncoming pandemic of Ebola, and their woeful lack of preparedness, …for
it.
The only similarity these present day medical pretenders, all so highly
educated (just ask them), bear to those steadfast, yet un-schooled
bravehearts of times passed, is the “dance” they do.
Unfortunately, today’s version is the full blown,
“don’t-hold-me-to-anything-I-might-say-about-Ebola-because-I-really-don’t-know-squat”,
…totally spastic “C.Y.A.” dance, of the scared witless, modern day
politician/doctor/medical administrator.
(For those curious, as to “CYA”, …check on Google, …and please, …you
need to get out more)
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (C.D.C.) head Dr. Tom
Frieden, as well as President Obama, …the two people the country counts
on most, for comfort and instruction at a time like this, …have
said one stupid thing after another (and un-true, and un-informed), for
over two weeks now.
All while a nervous U.S.A. waits for some small semblance of
leadership, and council, …and sense.
How ya feelin’, right about now? Safe in your own
home?? Secure in your own skin ???
Somehow, I just don’t have a warm, fuzzy good feeling, when it comes to
avoiding this fatal African menace.
Way too many simple mistakes made, unnecessarily, and way too much
political tap-dancing, around the truth, …for me to feel very comfy
right now.
With hospitals ignoring, not communicating, nor even knowing their own
protocols, when encountering this disease, and with the CDC
allowing those exposed it to travel freely on planes, and then on
cruise ships, it’s kinda hard to bet very heavily, on a future with any
length to it.
Better be sure your life insurance is paid up, …and your will is
updated, with our future in the hands of “Dumb and Dumber”, and the
rest of their cast of wannabe experts, and political operatives
masquerading as medical administrators, all with the bedside manner of
Groucho Marx and his brothers.
Dr. Freiden instructed us recently, when asked if one could contract
Ebola, while riding a public bus, …that no, we could not get it from
anyone on a bus, but that any infected people might be able to pass it
on, while riding said bus.
What ????
President Obama actually said this the other day: that he
wants a CDC “swat” team, to be available around the clock, ready to go
to any place in the U.S. which has a sudden Ebola outbreak, and for
them to be there, “on the ground”, within 24 hours from first
call.
24 hours !!??? Dude, this is 2014
!! With a disease which can take you over in minutes, …24
hours is like a month!!
And just where in the hell is this swat team going, that it will take
them 24 hours to get there, especially when they are supposed to be
standing “at the ready” ??
Wow, talk about a low bar to meet. A ten wheel
flatbed, hauling turnips, could go from somewhere in Georgia, to
anywhere in Montana, in 24 hours !! So could a
Greyhound, making twenty stops for locals.
So, are these guys taking a bus, …or what???
But that’s the point.
We are so unprepared, …and our leaders just can’t find it in themselves
to say that.
Wouldn’t you feel better, if they would just come right out and
say: “Folks, we just don’t have any idea what’s
happening with this crazy thing called Ebola, but we’re working our
behinds off to figure it out, and we’ll let you know, every day, how
we’re doing.”
Wouldn’t that be better, than what we’re getting right now??
Instead of all the political posturing, and misinformation, and false
assurances (which they get proven wrong, daily), …and yes, all the
“CYA”.
But no, we get political correctness, over any kind of common
sense.
Banning flights to and from West Africa is termed by DC to be a bad
idea, …and just why, exactly, is that ?
Because someone might be labeled as less than some other healthy person
from somewhere else?? Good! That would be
a good start!!
Or because they might sneak in from somewhere else, through another
route?? Well, maybe this might be just the
opportunity to tighten up ALL our border crossings and
checkpoints. Just a thought.
A friend of mine reminded me, after reading my column last week, also
on Ebola, that even in the 15th and 16th centuries, countries and/or
kingdoms had the good sense to deny ships entry into their ports, when
they suspected the plague, or something else bad, might be on
board.
And here I thought we were so much smarter now.
Well, turns out, some of us may just be.
That cruise ship, with the infected nurse from Dallas on
it? Tried to let her off in Belize, and have her
airlifted back to the U.S. Only problem was, Belize said
“no chance, and get that stinkin’ boat out of our dock, and be on your
way, ..now!!”
Good for them, …showing un-common, common sense.
And in the Port of Baltimore, longshoremen refused to unload cargo from
a ship which had just come from Liberia, until enough time had passed,
for them to feel safe.
Good for them too, …so listen up Barry, the “common” people are trying
to tell you something.
It should be best remembered, always, that all these pols and so-called
leaders, who are telling us all this stuff, through their hats, about
something they know so very little, right now, …are the same ones who
gave us Obamacare, and who swore how great it was, and how cheap it
would be, and how easy it would be to sign up, and that you could keep
your own doctor, if you wanted to.
Feeling any better yet?? Maybe a quick look on
Craig’s List, for protective hazardous contagion suits, …might make
your day go smoother?
Or, …firing back three or four Jack Daniels shots, could work too,
depending on your mood to trust, those whom “we”
elected.
Something’s gotta work, …right ??
And when facing a disease with a 70% fatality rate, and leaders and an
administration more concerned about their legacies, than the health and
safety of the people, by whom they were chosen to protect, a
“wholistic” approach, …just might be the way.
At least it would change the mood, for a while, …and get rid of all
that dancing.
