Ohio Republican Party
Greetings!
Update from Chairman Matt Borges
9 Days until Election Day! Our team is working hard to get our
Republican leaders elected. On Saturday we had over 620 volunteers
reaching out to voters across every one of our 88 counties. Over 30,000
doors were knocked and more than 31,820 phone calls were made. That's a
solid start to our final Get Out the Vote push. Thank you to everyone
that participated.
The next nine days we must work even harder to get our voters out and
get all our Republican candidates across the finish line. We need
everyone's help to do it! Please think about lending a hand in these
final days. Remember every phone call and door knock counts! Contact
Meghan Wadsworth at (216) 297-5479 for more details.
Minority outreach taking front seat for GOP
Recently, the Cuyahoga County GOP held a forum entitled "Rebuilding
America's Great Urban Core." The forum was part of an effort to reach
out to groups that have been a minority voice in the Republican Party
for too long. The Ohio Republican Party, county GOPs, Governor Kasich,
and Senator Portman have all made massive strides in connecting with
these groups. Those efforts have been a part of a major push by The
Republican National Committee to expand our party's outreach and remind
every American that GOP principles are universal. Read The Washington
Post's article about our efforts here.
Can't trust Nina Turner
Democratic candidate for Secretary of State Nina Turner has been
spreading lies about her opponent to gain votes. On Friday, The
Cleveland Plain Dealer called her out on a campaign ad that she is
airing which uses "unfair conclusions that aren't rooted in
objectivity." In the ad against Secretary of State Jon Husted, Turner
uses "flimsy sources" to attempt to mislead voters on his record. The
fact is we just can't trust Nina Turner. She's far too partisan to be
trusted with our elections.
Plain Dealer backs Kasich
Ed FitzGerald lost yet another newspaper endorsement this week, this
one coming from his hometown newspaper. The Cleveland Plain Dealer
announced their endorsement of John Kasich early Friday after a joint
appearance the day before by the two candidates in Cleveland. The
editorial board noted that Kasich clearly earned a second term:
"Kasich deserves that re-election, for his vision and his efforts to be
a governor of all the people, from Steubenville, to Lima, to Medina and
Cleveland."
NRA endorses Kasich/Taylor
The National Rifle Association endorsed Governor John Kasich and Lt.
Governor Mary Taylor for re-election. They announced the endorsement at
an event in Chillicothe recently while meeting with members of the 2nd
Amendment and Sportsmen for Kasich Coalitions. You can see a video of
the event here.
Labor Union Endorsements
Speaking of endorsements, Governor John Kasich received three union
endorsements this week, the Indiana-Kentucky-Ohio Regional Council of
Carpenters, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18,
and the Ohio Laborers' District Council. These endorsements are a
testament to the Governor's support of the economy in creating jobs and
strengthening our community. He's a governor for all Ohioans.
Two powerful ads
Governor John Kasich released two powerful new ads this week. "Angela's
Story" focuses on a mother of an autistic child who has found a
brighter future for her son thanks to the work Governor Kasich has done
to come up with new initiatives to help all Ohioans reach their
God-given potential.
The second ad, "Barbara's Story," looks at the terrors of human
trafficking and the valiant strides Governor Kasich has made to curb
the problem and hold perpetrators accountable. Governor Kasich and our
Republican leaders are doing strong work to help victims and bring an
end to human trafficking once and for all.
Senator Portman and the Senate Majority
This morning, U.S. Senator Rob Portman appeared on NBC's Meet the Press
with Chuck Todd. Senator Portman discussed his efforts to help
win a Republican majority in the Senate and what a GOP majority would
mean to getting Washington working again and getting our nation back on
track. If you missed it, be sure to watch the interview on the Meet the
Press website by clicking here.
DeWine initiative offers justice for victims
This week, Attorney General Mike DeWine released a new ad that profiles
an Ohio woman's experience with the law after becoming a victim of rape
at gunpoint in 1993. Allyssa spent the following 20-years reliving the
event with no justice because her assailant remained unidentified and
her rape kit untested for DNA. It was under Mike DeWine's direction
that her rape kit was finally tested along with 5,000 others across the
state, and her attacker was finally identified. Allyssa ends the ad
with these powerful words: "because of Mike DeWine, I'm not afraid
anymore." Watch the ad here.
DeWine also received The Youngstown Vindicator endorsement for
re-election this November.
Husted for Secretary of State
The Youngstown Vindicator announced their endorsement for Secretary of
State Jon Husted this week. In the endorsement, the editorial board
points to Husted's efforts during the 2012 election to make voting as
smooth as possible after the debacles of years prior. Secretary of
State Husted has been improving the Ohio election process since he took
office in 2011, and "confidence in the sanctity of the ballot box in
Ohio is being restored." You can read the entire endorsement here.
Yost racks up another newspaper endorsement
Auditor of State Dave Yost this week received the endorsement of the
Youngstown Vindicator. The editorial board praised Auditor Yost for "a
record of which he and all Ohioans can be proud." They even went so far
to say that, "against such an exemplary record," his opponent "is left
to grasp at straws." With this endorsement from the Vindicator, Auditor
Yost has received the endorsement of every newspaper that has endorsed
in the race thus far, including the seven largest newspapers in Ohio.
Canton Repository endorses Mandel
This week, Josh Mandel received another endorsement in his re-election
for Ohio Treasurer. The Canton Repository wrote that in four years
Treasurer Mandel "has done a commendable job of managing the state's
money" and that he has earned a second term.
The Repository continued on to call the performance of the Treasurer's
office "outstanding" and highlighted how Treasurer Mandel has worked to
save Ohio taxpayers millions of dollars. You can read the Canton
Repository's endorsement here.
Justices receive Vindicator endorsement
Both Republican candidates for the Ohio Supreme Court, Justice Judi
French and Justice Sharon Kennedy, received the Youngstown Vindicator's
endorsement for re-election this week. The editorial details the
integrity that these two women have ruled with during their two years
on the bench. Justice French has remained focused on the
constitutionality of the cases, while Justice Kennedy has "proved
herself to be a highly engaging role model on civic education." Make
sure you vote for these two fantastic judges this November - complete
the ballot - and keep Kennedy and French on the Bench!
Justice French tours the state
Supreme Court Justice Judi French spent another busy week campaigning.
She attended the Darke County Pig Roast and the Henry County Fall
Dinner along with dozens of other events around the state. While
attending the Circleville Pumpkin Show, Justice French participated in
their annual parade. It was a great way to end the parade season!
Justice Kennedy earns endorsements
The six Ohio newspapers to endorse candidates have all decided on
Justice Sharon Kennedy for the 2014 Election. Along with 33
endorsements from different organizations and associations Justice
Kennedy is undoubtedly the Justice Ohioans need serving on the Supreme
Court.
We are in the final stretch and we have to push hard until the finish.
Our statewide candidates will be traveling the state on Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday on our Ohio Works Bus Tour. Look for details soon
on when and where they will be in your area.
Sincerely,
Matt Borges
