U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown
Giving Thanks
As families come together across Ohio this week to celebrate
Thanksgiving, Connie and I are reminded of all that we have to be
grateful for this year. We welcomed a new granddaughter — with another
grandchild on the way — and we will have the joy and privilege of
gathering with our friends and family this Thursday to share good food
and to give thanks for our blessings.
But during this week, we also remember that far too many Ohioans are
less fortunate and struggle to put food on the table — on Thanksgiving,
and throughout the year. Nearly one in seven Ohio families lacks
reliable access to food. Paychecks are failing to keep pace with the
rising cost of raising a family, and more than 1.7 million Ohioans live
in poverty.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy a hearty holiday meal
with loved ones, I hope you will join me in helping our friends and
neighbors do the same. There are many ways we can work to enrich our
communities and help Ohioans who are struggling — from volunteering, to
donating canned goods and warm clothing, to speaking up for policies
that invest in Ohio workers and help those who have fallen on hard
times.
This Thanksgiving, let us not only give thanks for own blessings, but
also spread them to others, so that all Ohioans can enjoy this holiday
season.
Connie and I wish you a warm and happy Thanksgiving.
