State Representative Jim Buchy
A Salute to Our
Local Public Safety Workers
America, it seems, has become more divided over the past few years than
at any other point in recent memory. Unfortunately, in that process,
distrust toward law enforcement has reached an all time high, creating
an undeniable tension that plagues communities across the country. When
we turn on the television and see horrific events unfold before our
eyes, as they did in Dallas, Texas last month, we cannot help but be
overwhelmed by the chaos and heartbreak. We must not forget the hours
upon hours of daily sacrifice that our public safety workers dedicate
to our communities, far too often for little thanks in return.
Every day, all across the United States, hundreds of thousands of
dedicated individuals put on a uniform, leave the comfort of their
homes, and purposely put themselves in harm’s way to protect the
communities which they have sworn to serve. Each day is completely
unpredictable; more often than not, lives are at stake and critical
decisions must be made quickly. It is absolutely essential that we
recognize the devotion that these selfless and brave men and women have
made to preserve our safety and liberty.
Not only should we stand behind our law enforcement officers, but also
behind our local firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and first responders.
They have humbly dedicated their lives to saving those of others, to
boldly step into life-or-death scenarios so that those who fall victim
to tragedy can live to see another day. Furthermore, we must remember
the families of these brave servants, who every day must bear the
burden of fear that their loved one may be the one that needs saving.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all of the
law enforcement officers, first responders, and other emergency workers
in our communities for taking those risks; for being willing to lay
down their lives for complete strangers in the name of preserving
order, peace, and safety in our free society. It is evident that these
individuals truly love the communities in which they live, and I am
honored to have the privilege of representing such dedicated servants
of the public.
It is my hope that in times of great division and unrest, we reflect on
the values that bring us together as fellow countrymen, rather than
those that separate us from each other. We must remember that we are
all children of God, we are all Americans, and we are all created
equal. Without recognizing what unites us, the American experiment
cannot succeed. I would encourage everyone to thank our public safety
workers personally whenever the opportunity arises, as they deserve the
utmost respect and gratitude for the sacrifices they have made for our
communities.
