Commissioner’s Corner
“Aviation Day”
and the official “Clayton Murphy Day”
September 22nd is the official first day of Autumn. Autumn means cooler
weather, High School football is going strong, and it won’t be long
until leaves are falling, crops are coming off, bonfires, and
preparation for the 3 big holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving and
Christmas are getting underway. This year has really flown by, and in
some cases that’s a good thing. When time flies, it means you are busy
or having fun, and there’s nothing wrong with that!
September has been a pretty typical month with our scheduled meetings,
regular sessions, proclamations and as always, more meetings. September
did include some very special events that the Commissioners
participated in. One of those was our first Aviation Day held at the
Darke County Airport on September 24th. We would like to thank our
tenants for suggesting this event and for making this a success. Mr.
Richard Borgerding, and Mr. Patrick Ryan, 2 of our tenants, worked very
hard on organizing and promoting this event. Although the weather was
less than perfect, a good crowd showed up to see a crop dusting plane
(Thank You to Roger Trump!), several experimental aircraft our tenants
owned, ultralight aircraft, and of course Midmark provided their jet
for the people to see. Mr. Gary Stull of J Crane, Inc., another of our
tenants, opened up his twin engine aircraft and let people step inside
and look around.
Refreshments were provided by the Supply Chain Management Students from
the Greenville Career Tech Center. The Hot dogs were donated by
Midmark, and all proceeds from donations were given to the Special
Olympics. Thanks also goes to the Miami Valley Career Tech Aviation
Mechanics students for their display, Christine Doering from the
Bowling Green University Flight center for their display, and to the
Civil Air Patrol for their display and for helping park cars. The
Commissioners want to thank Mr. Borgerding, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Stull and all
of our other tenants and vendors for rolling out their aircraft so
children and adults could ask questions about aviation. A very special
thanks to Denise Dillman, Administrative Assistant to John Cook, who
worked tirelessly with both tenants, (and even sprained her ankle!), to
make this a success. Thanks to all of you for your efforts. The tenants
would like to have another one in the Spring, and we will let everyone
know the date when it is set.
The second big event was the homecoming of Olympic Bronze medalist
Clayton Murphy on September 30th before the home football game at New
Madison. The Commissioners along with many others were proud to honor
Clayton with a proclamation designating August 15th, 2016 as “Clayton
Murphy Day.” Congratulations to a fine young man who put the tiny
village of New Madison, and all of Darke County on the worldwide stage.
We are certain that Clayton will represent his family, school, village
and county in a very positive light from now on, and represent the best
of Darke County to the world. Thank you Clayton!
October is here, so won’t you come on up to a Commissioner’s meeting?
We meet every Monday and Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m., in our office at 520
S. Broadway. Hope to see you there!
