A Light in the Dark
By Christy Riley
1 a light in the dark
hope then is born anew
for another tomorrow
still yet to come
2 in the darkest hour
of the night
when all hope seems lost
love shines thru
so i smile knowing
that it will be okay
because you are
by my side always, . . . . .
3 because your love is real
for your love is within me
so then i smile
even in a world like mine
where smiles are rare
and so many ‘round me are
all without hope and so
devoid of all love –
4 so give thanks
at all times
and in all circumstances
for the light of thine
own salvation
dwells within us all . . . . .
5 so then I smile
even when it is raining
for the light of your love
lights up the darkness
all around me
giving me hope
for my future . . . . . SELAH

Finding Me
By Christy Riley
Teen Scribe
*who i am cannot be said
in a few brief words
for my identity is so much
more than meets the eye...
who i want to be
cannot be said
in a few brief paragraphs
upon a page spreaded out
by page and by page
forming a book
all about me ...
*oh my identity and
what makes me, well...me
is composed of my
persona which brings about
my identity by how i act
my identity defined by how i think
my identity formed out
by how i talk
by how i think
by how i...just am.
*day after day goes by
and i still am in the phase
of finding myself
and figuring out for myself
who it is i want to be ...
i am just a child lost in a world
seemingly like a giant’s palace
while i be a wee girl
trying to make sense
of stuff just beyond me, ...
*as time just tick and tocks on by me
i wait and i wait
hoping and praying
that somehow and someway
i will one day be able
to find out for myself
who it is i am supposed to be, ... --
yet until then
i remain forever on a search
to be finding myself
as i learn on this
journey of self discovery
who it is i am meant to become
and who it is i was always
supposed to be ...
*just flip back the page
and write on down
how it is i am
how it is i feel
how it is i hope to be...
for i am finding out
and still searching for me
praying that someday
i’ll know in full
who it is am exactly
parsay, that is thereof

Don't Give Up
*don't give up!
you've come this far
hold on and hold out
for love is marchin' on ...
*don't throw in the towel
hang in there
and persevere
for surely what
tomorrow holds is a
promise of hope
and hope brings us
endurance to continue
going on long after
others said we'd be better off
quittin' on it all ...
*hold on tightly
don't you let go,
i know life can be hard
and doesn't make very
much sense at all ...
*yet surely there is
hope for the hopeless
so don't give up,
'cause i know
that tomorrow is
the start of
'nother day and hope
awaits us beyond the horizon!

I
wrote this poem for my dad when I was in high school. It still rings
true to my heart today. This year for Fathers’ Day may we all thank our
dad for everything. If you do not have a dad, then thank all the father
figures in your life and/or thank someone you know who is a father
today.

FATHERS
By Christy L. Riley
A helping hand in times of trouble,
A smile during times of trouble,
And a tender hand
To help me along the way,
Or guide me down life’s path.
Loving me no matter what,
Showing unceasing compassion,
Demonstrating a love like no other,
Being all that he can be,
To be the very best
For me his child.
Caring,
Loving,
Giving,
You alone give all of this.
Your love is what makes me whole.
The fact that you give me everything
I could ever want or need,
Is more than I could ever imagine
Or even understand.
Your care for me while I’m sick
Is more beautiful and lovely
Than the daises and flowers
That bathe and clothe the fields.
A helping hand in times of trouble,
A smile during times of trouble,
And a tender hand
To help me along the way,
Or guide me down life’s path.
Caring,
Loving,
Giving,
You are all of these and so much more to me.

Let Freedom Ring
America, the beautiful and brave
your song sings ever true to my heart
as slight reminders and glimpses
of your many trials and wars fought
pass through my mind
many a day goes by
leaving those i've known as did others
who all have died for the very word
Freedom!
what power such a word holds in our hearts
that caused so much blood shed
to bring about the very freedoms
that many even take for granted today.
Oh America,
your truth and grace
will forever ring in my heart
as i look towards the very one
who alone holds it all together for us,
God and America herself.
together we must work
so that the very word called freedom
doesn't become a thing of our past,
so let freedom ring!

YOU ARE THERE
Though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
I know you are there
Crying with me
As all I can do
Is weep
With a broken heart
Dreams so far from reach
Yet still will I carry on.
In the valley you seem so far
And I can barely hear you
Yet still I go on.
For though in the valley
You are there
So I am never alone
For you are always
And forever right
There with me
Through the joy
And the pain
Will I be in the shadow of your wings
‘Cause you are never gonna
Leave me
Nor forsake me.

HOPE 4 TOMORROW
By Christy Riley
1 i tried and I tried
Time and time again
To get it right
Yet try as I might
I just keep on missing
The mark and I’m always
Flying off short of
The mark set off for me . . .
All of my life
Has been waiting for such
A moment like this
When all my dreams
Are realized and I hope for
A tomorrow full of dreams
Still within the reach of
All my future still not here. . .
2 oh for today,
Oh for tomorrow,
Oh for yesterday,
All my dreams . . .
All my hopes . . .
All my future . . .
Today I hope for my future
Where all my hopes
And all my desires
Are still yet in the making
So then I smile
Because I know there’s
Always and sill will be
Hope for tomorrow
For the promise
Of yesterday always remains . . .
3 oh for today and for yesterday
Hope will always remain
And so hope for tomorrow
Shall last no matter
How long the night
May last even then
Do I have hope
Still yet for a
Day not yet here . . . . .
4 so as tomorrow dawns
As my future readily
Arrives on the horizon
Of the setting sun does ‘morrow
Still then do I
Smile because I know
Your love always and shalln’t ever
Falter for me . . .
For tomorrow
For yesterday
And for today
Oh for on the ‘morrow is hope
Enough to last through the long night
And so I’ll smile because everything
Will somehow and someway be
Just alright for me and for you.
Still then am I always hoping
And praying for a new day
As I continue to
Be living for today
With the promise of tomorrow
On wings of grace of yesterday.

For my Friend
By Christy Riley
Side by side do we walk
With your hand in mine,
As we make the great walk of faith
Not separate or alone
Together just the way
It should be…
And side by side,
When I need you most of all,
God knows,
You’ll be there
A drop of a dime,
For you know
Ya will always be my friend
During the tear stained moments
When hugs were all
I needed,
You poured out your heart
With simple acts of devoted trust,
Ya knew we were
To be, friends always and forever.

REMEMBER ME
just a face in the crowd
numbering the thousands;
purpose and reason,
so much love and life,
much to live for-too short of time,
why so dreadfully early
to leave so much behind?

Only 24 Hours
1Another day in the life
Gotta get it written down
In black and white
For something more in life
Than just day in and day out
Of work, school, home, eat,
Watch T.V., eat, sleep, and
Repeat 7x times more 24 hrs.
2every day is a new day
Full of discovery
And adventure
Awaits me on the horizon.
Hope fills me and yet
I’m faced with there being
Too much to do
Yet not enough time…
‘Cause there’s 24 hours a day
And only 60 minutes a hour
And only 60 seconds a minute
And only so on and so forth…
Only so many hours in a day
And only so many days in a week…
So let me make the most
Of the seven days a week,
Of the 28 to 31 days a month,
Of the 365 some days a year,
And make this time count for something.
3*sunrise, sunset
Day starts
Night arises
A new and fresh
Do I rise each day
Yet a new beginning
Second chance
To get it right
This time around.
*choices and chances
So many decisions to make
Yet so little time to
Get it all done in.
424 hours is not nearly enough to get it all
done
Truly more time
And hours in one day
Would be almost enough
To get it all done.
*Time is not at my disposal
So I have to make with what time
I have and value
What I have
Cause in one second
It all could be gone
Just like that.
5*Life isn’t always so kind
Nothing is forever
Got to make the most
Of what I have
And treasure every moment
As if it were my last.
Instead of this assigned time set aside
For this and that
No knowledge of as to how
To figure it all out.
so much to do and be done
But oh there’s too little time in which
To get it all done in.
