Wreaths Across America
From a CNO reader
Recently,
25 tractor trailers left Harrington,
Maine loaded with wreaths to be placed on graves at Arlington National
Cemetery. Hundreds of motorcycles and a police escort in various states
led the
convoy.
The
tradition began in 1992 when the Worcester
Wreath Company found themselves with a surplus nearing the end of the
Christmas
season. They donated the wreaths to Arlington.
A
photo of the stones at Arlington, adorned
with wreaths and covered in snow, went viral on the internet. Suddenly,
the
project received national attention.
Thousands
of requests poured in from all over
the country from people wanting to help and to emulate the Arlington
project at
their national and state cemeteries.
This
year over 800 locations around the nation
will be receiving the wreaths, and 60,000 volunteers will be helping
with the
placement.
