Santa Claus is
Coming to Town
Every Christmas, we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus with
friends and family, as we all crowd around a dinner to enjoy each
other’s company. While our kids look forward to this excitement
as well, their enthusiasm is most often directed toward the annual
visit of Santa Claus.
Each Christmas Eve, Santa delivers presents to children across the
globe, including the good boys and girls in Ohio’s 84th House
District. As St. Nick travels the globe, he fills the stocking of
over 2 billion children in 571 million homes. This includes the
26,362 children in HD 84 who reside throughout the 15,500 homes in HD
84.
While delivering all of these presents in such a short period of time
may seem like a tall order, these obstacles are overcome by Santa’s
magic. While we may never quite understand these feats, Santa is
a rightful hero to everyone across western Ohio. During his trip
around the globe, Santa moves at over 650 miles per second and visits
823 homes per second! This means that Santa’s trip through the
84th House District is only 19 seconds long!
His sleigh is another marvel itself! Weighing in at over 321,000
tons, each of his 9 flying reindeer (including Rudolph) must pull over
71 million pounds each! Out of all those presents, the good boys
and girls of the 84th House District will receive 24 tons of gifts this
Christmas.
One way Santa is able to deliver all of those presents is with the
energy he gets from the cookies and milk that we leave him each
Christmas Eve. While in western Ohio, Santa will eat around
47,000 cookies and drink 125,000 ounces of milk. That totals over
5.2 million calories!
As Santa makes his way through the 84th House District each Christmas
Eve, he enjoys aerial views of Grand Lake St. Marys and the beautiful
church steeples throughout the district. Legend has it that
one Christmas, while filling stockings on a foggy night in Maria Stein,
Santa almost flew right into one of those cross-tipped church
steeples. Thankfully, Rudolph spotted it just in the nick of time
and they veered out of the way.
Looking back, this has been a great year for the 84th House
District. This district is full of good girls and boys who are
eagerly anticipating the arrival of good old St. Nicholas. As we
celebrate this joyous holiday, keep your eyes on the skies, and you
just might be able to catch a glimpse of Santa’s magic!
