“Say a Command”
By Art Garland

First of all, I admit, I do take my cell phone to church. I have
a Blackberry and with it comes a feature where one can press a button,
and it asks for a command. Now, with that said, we set the stage…
The church sanctuary is small in size with everyone knowing everyone
else. My friend and I have been attending this friendly little church
for about 3 weeks. We make our way to our favorite pew and sit
down. I made sure my cell phone was turned off and settled in for
the sermon by putting my phone in my purse and removing my ink
pen. Oh what a great sermon it was! The pastor announced
the closing prayer and for everyone to bow their heads and close their
eyes.
“Our precious Heavenly Father…” he began. I decide to slip my ink
pen back and seconds later I hear a voice coming from my purse saying,
“SAY A COMMAND”. OH NO! My friend eyeballs me. I had
accidentally pressed the button on the phone! I opened my purse
to turn the phone off at just the moment when it says in an even louder
voice, “SAY A COMMAND”. I quickly turned off the phone, only to
hear a male voice from behind me reply… “Thou shalt not take thy cell
phone to church!” The pastor says amen and I run for the door!
