Mollie Breno
Mollie was born in England in 1922. Her family lived in London in a
museum area, and as a child she often played in museums.
When Mollie was 17 years old her family’s home was bombed by the
Germans. She joined the British Army and was stationed at Winchester,
where she did office work.
Molly met an American soldier at a dance. His name was Paul Breno, and
they were married in 1947. They had four children, one of whom is
Monica (Mrs. Tony) Baltes of Versailles. The Breno family lived in the
Toledo area where Paul was involved in sales. After Paul died Mollie
worked as a receptionist in a doctor’s office in Toledo.
Now Mollie resides at the Brethren Retirement Community so that she can
be near her daughter. In fact, Monica helped her mother remember some
of the details for this interview. Mollie is fond of her medals: an
Auxilliary Territorial Service medal, and the Royal British Legion
medal. She still loves parades, and always salutes the flag.
