40 years of Card
Playing

“Laughter is the best medicine and we do lots of that!” said Libby Koch
about the afternoons the group spends playing cards and socializing.
For more than 40 years, the group has been playing cards every
Wednesday afternoon at the Greenville VFW. There are three
members of the original group still playing.
Ramona Amore is the youngest of the group at 82. Oldest is Lova Brown
at 94. Pauline and Lloyd Hunt are from West Milton. Lova and Ed Brown
are from Arcanum.
“Sometimes we forget whose deal it is, or what the score is….and it
seems to happen more often!” joked Pauline Hunt who was the score
keeper for the day.
The group gathers and socializes, then plays Euchre from 2:30 – 4:30
p.m. They use either three or four decks – depending upon how many are
there that particular day. After the card game, they go out to eat
somewhere. They all agreed that they try to find a different place each
week.
A Christmas party used to be among their other activities, as did going
out dancing, “until they closed all the dance halls on us.” said
Pauline Hunt.
The consensus of all was that they have a very good time. The women
said the men cheat occasionally………but, then the men accused the women
of the same practice.
If laughter is indeed the best medicine, hopefully there will be
another story on the group when it starts its 50th year of card playing!
