Darke
County Senior Scribes
Heat
Wave
By Lois
Wilson
Heat
advisories have been issued. Restrictions on burning have been issued.
Darke
County Senior Scribes Poet Laureate Lois Wilson first published these
in The
Early Bird in 2010... she acknowledges, however, that the current heat
wave is
a little heftier than the one that occurred then.
Be sure to
check CNO Books for offerings from her and other Senior Scribes writers
CITY—
Morning fog
Shifting
smog
Hot sun
rays
Humid days
Steamy
streets
Asphalt
heats
Clothing
wet
From the
sweat
Cool fronts
fade
Find some
shade
All is
fried
Stay
inside.
COUNTRY—
Summer’s
torch
Corn plants
scorch
Soybeans
curl
Dust clouds
swirl
Livestock
stress
Eating less
Pray for
rain
But in vain
Dried-up
fields
Mean small
yields
All looks
drear
Try next
year.
