Introducing
Billy...
Big Brother
By Delbert Blickenstaff
I’m older now than I was when I wrote my first story. I didn’t really
write it but I told Grandpa what I wanted to say and he wrote it down.
I know lots of words but I like to learn new ones. Like sawhorse.
That’s two words put together. I heard Dad say that he was going to get
a sawhorse and cut some boards.
Now how can a saw be a horse? Or a horse a saw? I asked Grandpa and he
explained it to me. He’s very helpful.
Another new word is “delicious.” I heard Mom say that a salad that she
was eating was delicious. When I asked her what she meant she said that
the salad was better than good. I think that ice-cream is delicious!
In my first story I wrote about wanting to be a big brother like my
brother Henry is. When I said that I forgot that I’m already a big
brother to our baby sister.
Emily is hardly a baby any more. She’s over a year old and can walk all
over the house. I can run faster than she can so it’s easy to get away
from her.
I remember that I wrote about how boring it was having to go to church.
Well, I’ve changed my mind because of the fun I had at Vacation Bible
School.
There were lots of other kids my age and we learned some new songs.
Like “Jesus loves me this I know.” And “Jesus loves the little
children.”
Part of that song I didn’t understand. “Red and yellow, black and
white.” Did you ever see a black and white kid? I didn’t. If there
really is one I hope that Jesus loves him, because he would really be
weird.
Grandpa helped me again by explaining that the words meant black kids
and white kids instead of one black and white kid. Thanks, Grandpa.
I hope I get to go again next year and learn more songs. That’s all for
now.
