Introducing
Billy
NELLY
By Delbert Blickenstaff
We did go to the Fair again and we had a great time. Dad took the whole
family. Henry and I got to pick a ride to go on and we tried to keep
our arms up without holding on. It was fun.
I especially liked the horse show and the llama show. I wish we lived
on a farm so we could have some big animals. I would help take care of
them.
We have a dog at home, a yellow lab. We got her when she was a puppy
about six months old. Nelly and I used to take naps together when I was
younger. We sort of grew up together.
Nelly is a very smart dog. She learned to catch a Frisbee in her mouth.
She barks at strangers when they come to our house, but she becomes
friendly when we tell her it’s OK.
One day I watched my Grandpa work on his stained glass in his shop. He
showed me how he cuts the glass by scratching it with a tool and then
breaking it along the scratch. Then he smoothes the edges
on his grinder.
After he wraps each piece in copper he solders the pieces together to
make a picture. I wanted to help but Grandpa wouldn’t let me. He said I
might cut my fingers or burn myself on the soldering iron. He showed me
some of his scars.
I got to play T-ball this summer. I haven’t hit any home runs yet, but
I think I will next year. I’ll talk to you later.
