Musings
of a Senior Scribe
Thanks and Hugs
By Mona Lease
Hi,
all! My mind screams down the
track, two weeks ahead, of time picking up passengers (thoughts) along
the way.
My body zigs and zags; sometimes ahead, sometimes behind. Sometimes
they meet
in a crescendo of understanding. Normally; it's just a quiet knowing
deep
within - a belief that refuses to be bought or sold. Today was one of
those
days.
Veteran's
Day is here. Growing up,
my Maternal Grandmother referred to it as Armistice Day. She explained
to a
five year old, that it was a Treaty, a Pact, a Promise. We, the USA;
and all
around the world, agreed to lay down our arms. No more fighting. Enough
was
enough. Neither "side" was going to win. It was mostly a "draw."
It was time to "turn our spears into pruning hooks." I think that
means to use our instruments meant for war, to bring new life.
So,
to all the Veterans - Thank you
for your service. Thank you for being uncomfortable so I could be
comfortable.
Thank you for missing your family, home, birthdays ,children, and
hobbies, so I
did not have to miss mine. Thank you to the families of those who made
the
ultimate sacrifice. I am so sorry for your loss.
I
do not do a prayer list. Betty
Rubble does not want her hysterectomy surgery in print. Neither does
Fred
Flintstone want his hemorrhoid surgery in there. I've never been
refused when
I've offered prayer. So; know that I am praying and wishing you all
well. When
there is a problem, I try not to get caught up in details. I am not
sure it
matters how how we got to the problem - cigarettes, alcohol, genetic
disorders,
etc.The result is still a problem. And at that point - all I know is -
we have
Faith, Hope, and Love. And the greatest of these is Love.
Thank
you to all of you readers. I
could not do this without you, your stories, your wit & your
wisdom. I
enjoy your stories as much as you enjoy mine.
Though
I can speak and understand
every language on this earth and have not Love, I am not saying
anything. And
even if I can tell the future, understand all mysteries, all knowledge,
and I
have the faith to do the "impossible", and I do not have Love; I am
not doing anything to help. If I give everything I have to feed the
poor &
I give my body as a sacrifice, and I do not have Love, I have not truly
given
anything. Love suffers a lot and is still kind. It does not envy others
and
what they do or have. Love does not boast of it's own accomplishments.
Love is
not happy because there are wrong decisions and actions. Love takes on
all
things, believes in the good times & things, and hopes for the
good times
& things. Looking back on this column, it sounds "sappy." Then
again, so am I. Hug
a Vet. Hug a Child.
Remember
the kiddies and our
service people. Be good to the furry and feathered ones out there. Be
safe and
healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!!
