Darke
County Senior Scribes
Dissent, Detection
& Other Political Stuff
Poems by Lois Wilson
The Senior Scribes Poet Laureate Lois Wilson is at it again. It seems
she has a poem or two (or three or four) for just about every occasion.
She doesn’t come across as a political person to those who know her,
but her thoughts about the process are about as “right on” as you can
get. Enjoy.
Don’t forget that our Senior Scribes are prolific writers. Lois has
published a series of poems, starting with “Slices of Wry” and “As Days
Go By.” Senior Scribe Marianne Cox Clark has published a book “Yogi Boy
Cox and Friends,” and CNO Editor Bob Robinson still has copies
available of “God Don’t Make Junk, from Ramblings of an Old Man.” All
proceeds go toward scholarships for Darke County teens. Get more

DISSENT
To those who do,
Remember too—
If you want to stay free,
The same right goes
To all of those
Who dare to disagree
And oppose you.

CONNECTION DETECTION
The day after an election
For the people’s paths you’ve crossed,
It doesn’t take much inspection
You can tell by the dejection
Or the happiness projection
If their candidates won or lost.

WHAT’S YOUR GOD?
Some folks think the government is God,
And to it they will faithfully pray.
They’ve pledged their lives to partisan rule,
Leaning on it to supply all needs.
Others find this philosophy odd.
These say independence is the way.
They believe freedom is the best tool,
Along with hard work and honest deeds.

LEST WE SUBMERGE
Many fear the citizens’ scourge
Is the national debt upsurge.
We wish politicians would purge
Every cavalier urge to splurge.
Don’t spend the country to its verge;
Don’t draft the measures of its dirge.
