Poetry for Simple
Enjoyment, Part 3
By Hope Louise Edwards Wills
This is the third in a series of poems by Hope Wills. They have been
sent to County News Online by Senior Scribe Marianne Clark.
Marianne said Hope writes about experiences that have been important or
interesting in her life… her goal? Simple reading enjoyment.
As with the others, we enjoyed them. We think you’ll like them, too.
Don’t forget that Marianne’s Book, Yogi Boy Cox and Friends, is still
available for interested readers. It can be purchased through
Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com or xlebris.com. All proceeds benefit
County News Online and the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund.

DREAMLAND
Hush now child and go to sleep,
And into dreamland you will leap.
You will see fairies and baby animals, too,
And children doing what little children do.
You will see cotton candy clouds of white and pink,
And lemonade fountains from which you may drink.
Pretty flowers are in a row,
And an orchard where candy apples grow.
And there is a chocolate drop
Big enough to climb on top.
Then you can slide down to the ground,
And take a bite of the luscious mound.
Or if a candy cane is more for you,
You may sample all those, too.
As you go walking on a candy lane,
You’ll have no worry of a tummy pain.
You can play with children having fun,
Running in the lemony sun.
So close your eyes really tight,
And I will kiss you a “ good night”.

RETURN TO STORY BOOK LAND
I took a walk through Story Book Land one time.
I had so much fun; I’ll try another “nonsense rhyme”.
Rapunzel told the prince, “To see me in my tower, you’ll have to climb
my hair.
Will you do it? Will you dare?”
The prince got a really big kick
Out of climbing her hair to see that chick.
When Goldilocks went to the three bears house that day,
She became a juvenile delinquent, I would say.
But a good lawyer got her off anyway.
He claims the bears were running a Bread and Breakfast that day.
The witch’s house made of gingerbread sounds yummy, I confess
But one good rain would have made the house a real soggy mess.
Chicken Little said, “I told everyone the sky would fall.”
But did they listen? Not at all!
Cinderella sat in a kitchen corner,
But then again so did Little Jack Horner.
They say all good things come to those who wait,
A luscious plum – A perfect mate.
Dorothy went to Oz and found a new land.
If it wasn’t for the wicked witch it might have been grand.
But she learned that home was the place to be,
Although Oz had many things to see.
In Story book Land my imagination can fly
Up into the bright blue sky.

STORYBOOK LAND
I took a walk through a storybook.
I found Miss Muffet in a secluded nook.
She was eating her cottage cheese.
She said, “I don’t mind honeybees,
But no spiders, if you please.”
Down the road was Humpty Dumpty on his wall.
Said I, “Get off of there, you’ll surely fall!”
But I might have saved my breath,
He would die a horrible death.
Then I spied Little Bo Peep.
She had once again lost her sheep.
I told her they would come home,
But don’t expect them not to roam.
I passed the Old Woman in her shoe,
And all her little children too.
She said the shoe was mighty tight,
And she would have new lodging by tonight.
I saw Little Boy Blue rounding up his sheep.
They had run away while he was asleep.
I saw Little Jack Horner eating his pie.
“I really am a good boy,” he said with a sigh.
I saw the Three Little Pigs
Were building new digs,
Straw, twigs and brick,
Take your pick.
Jack was on his way up the beanstalk
So he didn’t have time to talk.
He didn’t know a giant he’d see,
But then he really should have asked me.
Little Red Riding Hood was going into the wood.
I would tell her not to, if I could,
But would she listen? No, not her.
She’d be fine at Grandma’s house, she was so sure.
Jack and Jill were heading up the hill,
And I knew they would take a spill.
But that’s the way it is in a storybook.
As I took a walk and had a look.
