County Senior Scribe
It’s Tax Time. Again.
By Lois Wilson
Once again Senior Scribe Poet Laureate Lois Wilson is on top of the
season with her insightful look at the important events of the day.
This time it’s taxes. Wilson offers four poems, each addressing a
different look at what many Americans do NOT look forward to each year.
Wilson's completed set - four volumes - of published poetry is now
available and is offered as a fundraiser for the Senior Scribes
Scholarship Fund. Enjoy great poetry and help a local youngster attend
college. For additional information, contact

Tax time, budget breaks
Diving down to naught.
They've got what it takes
To take what we’ve got!

WAYS AND MEANS
It seems lawmakers cannot be stopped.
For sure, the budget will not be cropped.
Always a new program to adopt;
They’ll spend it, but never refund it.
We’ll praise any partisan pundit
Who boldly asks, “How will you fund it?”

DEDUCTIONS
The thought of ten children chilled my spine.
I regarded their parents with pity.
But seeing "two" on my tax form line,
I deduced such a brood is quite witty!

APOLOGIES TO JOYCE KILMER AND "TREES"
I hope that I shall never see
The tax man coming after me.
A man whose hungry hands are pressed
Into my wallet for the rest.
A man who looks at forms all day
And lifts his greedy arms for pay.
A man who may in April bear
The task of robbin' for his share.
Upon whose bosses dough has lain—
Who intimately lives with gain.
Taxes are paid by folks like me;.:
But only government can tax a tree!
