Musings of a Senior Scribe
Come - Let Us Reason
By Mona Lease
Hi, all! So - I've been doing some research. In the state of Ohio - you
do not have to have auto insurance. You need to prove financial
responsibility. Land you own is not listed..however you can use
"assets." And the usual bond stuff is listed. But; suppose you
have a lot of acreage - 100's of it. And it's prime, producing land.
(In Darke County, six months ago, a stream between two fields, with
trees around the stream; sold for a reported $300,000. The stream
"feeds" two fields. The stream and trees were around 20 acres.). You
should have the right to use that land for collateral against a loan in
the event of an accident. A year's worth of insurance could be up to
$5,000 a year (for the good stuff!).
Now - if you are of the persuasion that declines the telephone
($35/month), DPL ($200+ cold weather), Vectren ($200+ cold weather),
Cable/Satellite TV ($150/month with computer service), nonsmoker
($120/month pack a day), no car so no fuel ($300/month conservative
estimate) - you get the idea here. If you add these - it totals $1,155
a month - or in one year it would be $13,860 - ten years would net
$138,860. Out of this money - shouldn't you be able to go to the
hospital and pay cash? My eye doctor gives me a percentage off of my
bill when I pay cash....some insurance policies have such a ridiculous
deductible; that it really makes little difference to use it. So - why
does it seem that the government is so interested in my money - so much
so that now I have to give up rights my ancestors fought in a war to
establish - The Revolutionary War or the Civil War (to determine who
was actually going to do the work we were now free to do i.e - slavery)?
Here's another thinker for you - If we all have to buy ObamaCare what
happens to the state Medicaid - it should be no more - right? The
recipients get an actual check on top of all of the standard
"amenities." Should'n't they have to purchase insurance, too?
Therefore - with all of the above, I thought maybe John Boehner (his
day probably starts at 6 am and his head probably does not hit the
pillow until midnight that night) would like a thank you. Thank you for
taking our place in DC. Thank you for being our voice in Washington.
Thank you for debating these issues everyday - ad-nauseum.
And readers - I received a response from him - via his District
Manager. I actually spoke with the District Manager - a male. The
Washington DC office actually forwarded the copy of last week's column
I e.mailed to them to John!! John's response was a hearty thank you to
Darke County for thinking of him. He is going to continue to fight for
what we all believe. He knows what we have to accept - he has gotten
thousands of calls stating that.
And this got me to thinking - Is there anyone else we have went
to with a list of grievances and not thought about how they feel? Maybe
this month is Someone's birthday and we've overlooked it because of the
list we have in our mind or hand.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
