Introducing
Billy
BETH
By Delbert Blickenstaff
A few months ago I wrote about Khoidia Wade, our foster child from
Senegal. Now we are getting another child and this time she is
going to live right here with us. Dad and Mom are on their way to
China right now to get her. I don’t know what her name is but I
bet is won’t be Mary. Grandpa and Grandma are staying with us
three kids.
Last week Dad and Mom explained to us kids this adoption of a Chinese
child. They told us that Chinese girl babies are often given up
for adoption because families are supposed to have only one child and
many people prefer boys. So there are many girls ready to be
adopted. I don’t understand how parents can give any baby up for
adoption, but some do.
Dad explained that he and Mom decided that a baby girl would round out
our family with two boys and two girls. And Emily would have a
baby sister to play with. I know she’ll like that.
Mom and Dad have been working on this adoption for over a year but
didn’t want to tell us until they were sure that the adoption was going
through.
Then came the big surprise. The adoption agency had sent them a
picture of our new baby sister and we got to see what she looks
like. She is a year old and is a cutie. She has a Chinese
name that I can’t pronounce, but we will give her an American
name. Before Mom and Dad left on their trip they told us to think
of some good names and when they get back with the baby we would all
decide on a name. I like the name Elisabeth. We could call
her Beth for short.
Before Dad and Mom left they wrote exactly where they were going for
Grandpa. They are going to Hunan Province, to a town called
Yuangling. The name of the adoption agency is Holt International,
and they would know how to get in touch with Mom and Dad while they are
on their trip. They’ll be gone two weeks and I can’t wait
to see my new baby sister.
