What’s God Got to Do with It
It's About Time!
By Nancy Livingston
A
new year is upon us! Hmmm... I wonder if I'll
refer to the new year as, "Two Thousand and Thirteen", or
"Twenty Thirteen" ? And how is it that each year goes faster for me
than the year before? Yet, here we are in the year 2013! Time is an
amazing
thing! We manage time. We waste time. We spend time. We save time. We
wish time
would come. We wish time would pass. Time flies. Time drags on. We
schedule our
entire lives around time, believing we somehow control it. Time....
what's God
got to do with it? Well, He created it!
God
governs all time. There are many Scripture
verses on time, but I'd like to include just a few. Ecclesiastes 3:1
teaches,
"To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under
Heaven". Actually, the first 8 verses give us a perfect example of how
God's plans are perfectly carried out, according to His timing! And 2
Peter 3:8
teaches, "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the
Lord,
one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years, as one day". This
verse makes it obvious that our earthly concept of time differs greatly
from
God's! In any case, here we are in the year 2013!
Two
thousand and thirteen years ago, an event
occured which literally rocked the world with such an impact, that time
on this
earth actually started over from that point! We are celebrating 2013 in
the
"year of our Lord". There has never been in the history of creation,
anything
of such magnitude! An event so profound, it is acknowledged throughout
the
world. That event was the cross! Time stopped and started over with
that one
single event! Scripture uses of time. Luke 2:6, " While they (Mary
&
Joseph) were there, the time came for the baby to be born." Galatians
4:4,
But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His son."
Speaking
of time, as I leave the old year
behind and begin the new, I am encouraged to consider that God controls
time,
your time and my time. We finished out the year with a holiday
remembering the
time when Christ was born. Jesus is no longer a baby in a manger. Time
changed
that. There is, however, one fact that time will not change. Hebrews
13:8,
"Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever"! " Time cannot
diminish Christ's love for us, or His power to work within our lives.
He is
there in the past, He is there in the now, and He is there in our
future! Here
we are in the year 2013! Happy New Year!
