An Old Man and a Ticket Stub
By Mona Lease
Hi, all! The elderly gentleman asked me for a ride on my golf cart. "Get in", I responded. He told me about things that happened in the past - the high jinx with his friends and the like. Things like that looked bad then. Now, after a serious health issue - "It's all good" - his words. He said he'd like to be able to do them all again, but the friends are gone on to their reward. He said that looking backwards - they are all good memories. People are people ...good stuff/bad stuff. He said he thought it's about "intentions." He said he thought you could tell by their words and actions - like if they lived the words by which they said you should live.
The ticket stub is in my change purse. It does not seem right to throw it in the trash. Maybe it's ok where it is.
I went to the Dayton Air Show last weekend. I was prepared - ice packs, water, umbrella - the day was hot at 9 am. They parachuted a 200 pound American Flag to the ground at Noon. Then Jane Wicker started her wing walking act. On her bi-plane, she stood attached with a safety line. At speeds of 110 mph - she zipped across the field. The plane banked and prepared for a low, last run across the field. You could wave to her and see her more closely that way. Then, in an instant, the plane was nose down and hit the field. It burst into flames. I had not packed anything for that. Obviously - no one else had either.
The moral her is obvious. But, I'll say it. Live life doing what you like to do. Make the little "sacrifices" and work at a job you like...love actually. Our money is pieces of numbered paper. It has no power to bring back Jane or her pilot - or the old man's friends. And - you really can tell people's intentions. I saw a field mostly full of them at the Air Show...people wanting to help - no possible way to help. Maybe in the adage "Live Long and Prosper" - the prosper is not money related. Maybe it's prosper in health and friends!!
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Be good to the furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!!!
