Introducing

Thunderstorm
By
Delbert Blickenstaff
When
our dog Nelly used to stay in the house most of the time she would hide
under
my bed during a thunderstorm. I don’t know why she was so scared. I
would talk
to her and try to get her to come out. But she would just lay there and
whine.
My
sister Emily is allergic to dogs so we keep Nelly outside now. When a
thunderstorm comes she is much worse than she used to be. She howls and
whines
and tries to break loose. Last week during a storm I asked Mom if I
could bring
her inside for a little while but Mom said no.
So
I
took her to the garage and tried to quiet her down. As long as I stayed
there
and talked to her she was quiet. But as soon as I left she started
howling
again. I had to stay out there until the storm quit. Thank goodness it
didn’t
last very long.
I
wish
dogs could talk. Then Nelly could explain why she gets so scared. Maybe
when I
get to be a vet I will be able to teach Nelly to talk. Emily couldn’t
talk when
she was born but she talks a blue streak now. I don’t see why smart
dogs like
Nelly can’t learn to talk too.
