Senior
Scribes plan for GOBA event, 2014 awards
banquet
The
Darke County Senior Scribes discussed plans
for the June 19 Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA). The group will be
hosting
breakfast items for the bicyclists in the Greenville High School
cafeteria.
Plans
also began to prepare for the 2014 Senior
Scribes Scholarship Banquet. Eight scholarships were handed out this
year with
36 students, family members, Senior Scribes and supporters attending at
The
Bistro Off Broadway. Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund President Elaine
Bailey
has requested a committee be formed to plan for the anticipated growth
of the
program.
Members
were advised of the upcoming County
News Online presence at the Versailles Poultry Days with requests for
volunteers to help at the information booth. The emphasis will be on
sponsors
for scholarships in 2014.
The
group also discussed Senior Scribe and SSSF
Committee member Bob Robinson’s association with the Early Bird.
“This
is a good thing,” said Robinson. “The
Early Bird has been a faithful partner with its bi-weekly publishing of
the
Senior Scribes page. Hopefully this will provide an opportunity for
greater
community awareness of our program.”
The
Senior Scribes is a dedicated group of
“readers and writers” of all ages who work “to inform, entertain and
educate…
by
seniors, about seniors and
for seniors.” As part of their community service they have
chosen to
support local youth through mentoring and fundraising for scholarships.
Individuals
of all ages are invited to join the
group and help achieve its goals for both seniors and Darke County
young
people. The Senior Scribes meet at 9:30 a.m. the last Thursday of each
month at
Heartland of Greenville. The next meeting will be on June 27.
