Musings of a Senior Scribe
What
Profiteth a Man?
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!!! You all know
that words swirl in my head - forming themselves into my columns.
I've wondered about this column for awhile now. Then I decided the
worst that could happen would be a) my Editor says he will not print
it - b) my Editor says to go away and never return - c) you readers
quit reading the column entirely - which would put me back to option
"b." So - here goes -
I've been hearing about
"The Wall" that our Government closed. I mean no disrespect
to anyone living or dead - past or present - who has a name on The
Wall - or any of their descendants. But - all that they endured - all
the things for which they fought - for all those who made the
ultimate sacrifice - Isn't that supposed to live in our hearts?
Aren't we supposed to be reminding ourselves and each other - who and
what gave us our Freedom? Isn't it supposed to be in our hearts and
minds where no one hangs a sign that says "closed until further
notice?"
Isn't that the reason for
the red stripes in our Flag - red - for all the blood that was shed?
Isn't that the point of the stars being grouped together - that we
stood together? Isn't that the reason we fly the Flag - as a reminder
of that for which it stands? Isn't that why we treat it with respect
and fly it until is is no longer usable - and then we give it a
"Funeral" - so to speak - and burn it - not just throw it
in the trash?
If we go to The Wall and do
not come away with a different point of view and a firm resolve to
stand strongly - the way the names on The Wall did - what was gained?
Aren't we supposed to grab our "gas masks" and give up a
few creature comforts to keep our Freedom the way the troops did when
they laid on the ground in WW! to get the USA again, on her feet?
Isn't the highest honor we could possibly give (the names on The
Wall) when we give up a few "rights" to keep the ones they
bought for us - Freedom - of thought - of speech - of a career - of
the very words I have just written and you have just read. Or - am I
wrong?
Remember the kiddies and
our service people. Take good care of the furry and feathered ones
out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
