What in the World is Happening?
By Sharon Hopper

These past few months everybody seems to be demonstrating about something and the troublesome part of all this unrest is supposedly a race issue. Well I have a different opinion. I think the troublesome part is complete disregard for the law. It seems to me that the more the law is administered, the more people want to demonstrate, destroy property that is not even theirs to destroy, and are willing to go to jail for something that should not concern them. Point----When you burn down your neighbors business you are not demonstrating, you are breaking the law. And you are hurting a person who is employing others and those people are hurt and now the demonstration has taken on destroying other lives who are not even involved in the situation. This is not demonstration. This is insanity.

All the man in the Walmart store had to do was lay the gun down when asked to do so, and let the officer examine the gun and in all probability no one would have been hurt. The public needs to learn that the officers of the law have a job to do and it is our job to listen to the officers and obey their commands.

When someone argues or attacks an officer, he or she is probably going to suffer some consequence. And if a person is foolish enough to threaten an officer of the law, he or she is certain to be hurt.
Lets realize that it is not race that is at issue here, it is the law. Lest we need to remember that the law has no color. Red, Yellow, black or white makes no difference. It is sad that Michael Brown had to die, but Michael Brown was wrong to attack an officer. Whether or not he robbed a store a short time before the incident is not the issue. It was how he responded to being questioned by the officer and what he did at that point and time. People say we need laws to protect one in these circumstances. Well we have laws, and people need to realize that if one breaks a law one must suffer a consequence. You do not attack a police officer under any circumstances or give the officer a reason to harm you. That is just plain stupid. That is not a race issue.

What does it cost a taxpayer to replace police vehicles? What does it cost in insurance rates to rebuild a business? More importantly what does it cost to take jobs from innocent people and cause hardship on them and their families? Well it cost each and every one of us each time this nonsense goes on in one way or another. Are we teaching our children to destroy others property if we disagree with a decision handed down by a Jury or a Grand Jury? What are we teaching our children when their schools are closed because of violence? And the most important part of all this is what are we teaching our children about obeying the law and respecting the law. OK. I want beer and it is ok if I go into the store and steal the beer and if I get shot in the process of being arrested the policeman is the bad guy. Give me a break. I have heard enough of “He was a good boy, or he was a loving person” FACT - Good and loving people do not break the law and then cry wolf or yell discrimination. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and we need to give respect to others. We do not need new laws, we need to respect and obey the ones that we have.
