New Year/New
Hope
By Mona Lease
Hi, all! I hand write these columns to keep a written record for
myself. When I wrote 2015 - I was shocked. 2015 already?! I thought
about our last year...2014. I spoke with a girl's Mom - we had just
been camping. It has not been five months already - has it?
There have been so many changes...changes in our home - Darke County.
Changes in our Government - our country. And, it is in that capacity I
write.
I know that four businesses have closed. I am sorry those people lost
their jobs, etc. But - maybe that is not a bad thing. Today - Dec. 29th
- as I write this - auto gas is $1.96 a gallon at Kroger's. There is a
reason for that - past the decrease on the barrel. Maybe - we as a
people - are starting to realize that there is more than money - the
little paper god. Maybe - we as a people - have realized that "being
there for each other" is worth more than any "purchase."
And - we have a Judge - Jon Hein - who is not afraid to have the news
printed on the front page of the Daily Advocate - that he will not talk
about funding for the Adult Probation Program behind closed doors. He
believes that violates the public's right to know and have a say in -
how, where, and how much money is spent.
John Boehner is not afraid to request and keep requesting the truth
about promises that were not fulfilled.
To me - the above is a local Judge - sort of at the bottom (no
disrespect, Jon) going upward with making a stand for the truth across
the board. John Boehner is at the top - Speaker of the House - an
exalted position nationally - that is two positions away from the
Presidency - right? He is requesting the truth. It looks to me like it
is - "by the people - for the people" from the top to the
bottom and from the bottom to the top.
I am hopeful for a good and prosperous 2015. In the midst of the chaos
at home and abroad - I am hopeful for a reuniting of old friends and
family. If it takes one match to start a forest fire - what will happen
when the truth is requested at the top and the bottom? I think the
possibilities are endless if we keep John and Jon in their elected
positions or replace them with someone with the same attributes when
the times arrives...and follow their lead.
May all of you readers have a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
And - thanks for reading my columns!
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
