Easter, You Say?
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! As I write this - Easter is a mere five days from us. I've
heard all the "talk." You can't call is "Easter" - that's a
"pagan" holiday...you have to call it "Resurrection
Sunday." It's (April 5th) not even when Jesus rose. There's no
Easter Bunny - the Easter Bunny is "pagan."
It's not Easter - it's "Easterlie." I've heard "it's not" and "you have
to" until I just turned off the computer and laid down the pen. Then I
decided to leave you readers with a recipe. You can figure out Easter
for yourselves - Easter Bunny and all.
Traditional Play dough
1 cup flour, 1 cup warm water, 2 t. cream of tartar, 1 t. cooking oil,
1/4 cup table salt, food coloring. Mix the first six ingredients
together and add the food coloring last. Cook over medium heat
until smooth. Remove from the pan and knead until blended smoothly.
Store in a plastic bag or airtight container. It will last a long time.
After listening to the hype about the state of Indiana passing a law
that allows business owners to decide which patrons they will allow
into their stores - I decided to add a few more paragraphs to this
column.
So - while we "adults" are discussing and outrightly cussing, the
above-mentioned topics - what are the kiddies doing? Seriously - aren't
most laws distasteful - to say the least? Speed laws, seat belt laws,
traffic cameras, radar check points, DUI's, etc. But - they are laws
and need to be obeyed. The traffic camera goes in a circle. Given the
fact that - "if you have nothing to hide - the camera should be
no problem" - I'll move to: No one wants to pay more tax
money to hire extra officers to patrol the streets. The logical answer
is the traffic camera. (No, I do not mind them.) In some cities the
cameras were declared an invasion of privacy and removed. Now, what to
do about the "red light-runners." Back to the police - and still no one
wants to pay more tax dollars.
In my mind, the cameras are/were a good thing. The police were
free/freer to find and arrest the heroin/other drug peddlers - which
lately have been what I call "near-teens"...ages 19, 21, 26, etc.
Back to the Easter/Resurrection Sunday thing. Doesn't this all have to
do with what is in your heart?
Again - seriously! Most people have told me that they believe that
Easter Sunday is when Jesus rose. So if you believe that and attend
Easter Sunday services that day - how "pagan" is it really?
What bothers me is the kiddies see and hear these arguments. What are
they going out the door to do (or who are they going to see) while we
argue these "injustices?" There will always be laws to follow - like it
or not. Obviously - Indiana does not want to deal with the issues.
After all - the "unwanted patrons" do make and spend money. If that
happens in Indiana - Indiana gets 7.5 cents of every dollar.
A question in my mind is - would this Jesus person really want us to
argue over these things and leave the kiddies to themselves or show
them, by example, that because you don't like a law you put all else
aside to vehemently voice your rights and opinions - rather than think
through all that the law represents - to every person...not just to
you? If the "idle chatter" is all that happens, what will get done to
improve anything?
Happy Easter/Resurrection Day - however you celebrate it!
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
